The SDI cap for pvp is 30%. So does that mean you only need 20% on the suit with inscription (since scribe gives 10% bonus)?

As I remember, from when the cap was first introduced, yes. Inscribe's 10% is part of the cap.

I think I was just hearing it does not go towards sdi cap.

For a focused scribe Mage you can have 30% sdi is items..GM scribe brings you over cap to 40%..test the damage differences

By focused I mean no other magical skill
Bushido,ninja,mystic,Spellweaving,chiv,taming,focus..all of which will limit your item cap to 15% but the 10% scribe bonus is still applied

Thanks for the feedback.

Did some testing. Used a Focused scribe mage with 20 sdi on suit casting flamestrike 10 times on toon with 70 fire resist (uncursed), dmg was 30-32. Same scenario with 30 sdi on suit, dmg was 32-35.

Looks like you do need 30 sdi on suit. Too bad that 10% you get from inscription doesn't count in pvp.

What ur sayin is u tested with +20sdi in items on ur character who had 100inscription and got damage 30-32?
Then u tested same character with 100inscription and had total 30sdi in items on character and got 32-35 damage?
Cause 100 inscription does give you +10 over the 30sdi cap in pvp so you can get 40 i am hearing.
So is the 2-5 extra damage a hit u were getting with +40sdi in pvp compared to if someone had +30 sound right?
I dont do math lol.

SDI in pvp is 40% You get 30% from your suit and the 10% from inscription. The did have it set to 40% suit and 10% inscription, but they tamed it down to 40%

Sorry im bit of a noob when it comes to PvP but I've been making a char to try. I thought it was 30 from items then +10 from scribe. Is this not the case?

I also tested with a guildmate and I was getting the same damage as him (he has no scribe).

I do have mystic though, does that make a difference?

Yes 30 items 10 scribe supposed to be. Now if somethings not working I don't know if ur damages are the same.
Someone in another thread or here said inscription at 100 is +10 on base damage of spells and not 10+ sdi. Since I said it does not add on the sdi total on ur stat list when 100scribe equipped sdi does not add on my stat list +10 to my sdi total which I thought it would.

Just had a look on UOGuide that says:

"A GM Scribe gains a +10% Spell Damage Increase to any Magery spells cast and an additional 5% bonus to Casting Focus which can exceed the item cap."

Stratics page says:

Inscription adds 10% bonus damage to the following spells at Grandmaster level:

Magic Arrow
Harm
Fireball
Lightning
Energy Bolt
Explosion
Chain Lightning
Flamestrike
Meteor Swarm

DJAd you understand correctly. For PvP, you can have 30 SDI from items and if you have 100 Inscription then you get to 40 SDI with no change on your suit. You are also correct with the free CF.

Ya so then to me say you have 30sdi on your stat total which the game shows you and you add 100 inscription to your template, shouldn't your new total shown on screen by the game total to 40 under the sdi section? That's the way it seems it should work but it isn't adding to the total which I think is a bug. If you use arcane empowerment it adds to ur sdi total when used so why not inscription? Unless I'm missing something here.

It probably "should" show an increase in sdi..but I don't know if it's technically "10 spell damage increase" or just a damage modifier like Eval is..

In a way you are correct, I DO understand your confusion. The problem is, the character status like many things in UO is very inconsistent and user unfriendly.

Lets talk about the Character Status window in the Classic Client:
Its shows you actual STR, DEX, and INT, it shows your actual base weapon damage output based on your anat and tactics and str etc and your actual actual lower mana cost and that will not exceed the lower mana cost cap. This is all fine.

Now everything else is kinda just item based display:

Hit chance increase: It will show the total amount of HCI you have on items, it won't show your actual chance of hitting something because this depends on what you're hitting, but if you get hit by HLA this will indeed drop. And the hit chance increase won't display above the current in-game cap.

Defense chance increase: the rules for the display for this are the same as hit chance increase.

Damage increase and swing speed increase. Again this is item based, errr ok in stone form the display will show a drop in swing speed and casting and raise in resist but won't display the increase of damage increase? (think this bug has been submitted)

It won't show your actual swing speed as this depends on the weapon you are carrying and your stamina, perhaps there should be a separate display for that.

OK so we've got 2 displays for output of damage. You have damage, and you have damage increase. Perhaps then for spells there should be spell damage and spell damage increase so you can see your base spell damage. But then what figure would this actually display? Because the damage shows the damage you would do with the weapon you are holding on a creature with 0 resist. But spell damage depends on what spell you will cast so it's perhaps not practical to display a base spell damage. But needless to say, if there was a base spell damage display, it would indeed show this 10% increase you have from inscription.

Ya I mean if u run tactics the weapon ur holding its base damge value goes up right than if u didn't have tactics? So I'm thinking the same should apply to sdi. I don't want to know against what creature my sdi is I just like to know my total. So with eval which is essentially tactics for damage output I would like to see on the status bar my sdi increase with and without having eval. Same with inscription I'd like to see it add it on there. Even if its a number like..... (mods total&spell buff total number here/total sdi with mods eval and inscription total here). So example would be 145/250 which the 145 is my mods and buffs but the 250 is the actual total sdi.

I dont do math lol.

First scenario was with 20% SDI on items, second scenario was with 30% SDI on items, used same characters/suits. The only variable was the amount of SDI built into the suit (20 vs. 30)
