It depends on your play style and connection to the shard you play on. If your pinging pretty high and lagging a little, then you might as well go for the stealth archer or thrower since your probably not going to outrun a whole lot of people. If your in a guild, then you might ask them for suggestions on templates, that is unless your guild is mainly PVM chars...then you might want to ask someone else. I've made several stealth PVP chars on different shards, but don't play them very often because I just don't have the patience to slowly stealth up on someone.

Starting off in pvp will be very challenging for you, especially if you employ the go it your own play style. if your not pinging well it will make things even more difficult.

i would advise that you try out a ranged char, albeit mage, thrower or archer. at least you will not have to constantly get up close to your target. the thrower can hit from 12 tiles with a glaive i believe. learning to play and be effective on a mage will gain you the most respect amongst the people you will be fighting.

w/e you do prepare to die ... a lot when you first start. try to see what worked against you and figure out a counter to it. i dont know what shard your on but over time you will get a feel for your competition to the point you can figure out their first move., i.e. a ninja deathstriker is sure to open with a disarm .. etc., most mages will go curse...

the gate is a good place to scout as to what is going on but probably the toughest place to learn without getting discouraged.

the advent of the dueling pits are a good thing as you can at least get a 1 v 1off.

joining a guild that is more focused on pvp will be a big help as well.

good luck.
