PvP - How to begin

Hello Europa community, well i am don juan, a pvper,
Anyways i am here to advertise the PvP scene.

I know, the people you encounter in fel, the hours spent on the chat reading some random pvpers boast about their skills or insult anyone else doesnt make you want to try it, but believe me pvp is more than what you see.

I would even go as far as saying that you havent experienced UO if you havent tried pvping, lets remember that this game has been created around it, not that im disrespecting all the other things. I would at least say that you should try it, and to be able to try it i dont think you should join a PvP guild thats in faction, the pressure might not be "fun"

So i thought perhaps i should give a few tips to start, and you can choose to ignore them or actually try it out.

So the first thing you need to remember, you do this for the fun of it, not to insult or be insulted.
To start, i dont think you should join a pvp guild, but perhaps stay in your current one, find one or more guildies thats as interested as you, and mess around. (more than 2 persons would be better as youd have more fun).
Mage, warrior, it doesnt matter, just mess around, fight each other, do a 1v1, 2v2, just go ahead and have fun, 3 of you attack that poor 1, etc ...
This, is to get used to your keys and the concept of pvp, discover it.

To be able to pvp you need basics, and basics doesnt mean know how to double click another person and attack him.
By basics i mean know everything thats happening on your screen : know all the spells you see, know when you get disarmed, and know what happens if you do.
For example if someone disarms you, not only does it mean the enemy disables your attacks, but also your defence, because having a weapon skill gives you natural defence chance on top of the property, so if he disarms you he will not miss a single hit on you until you re arm. Hence you having a key to re-arm a weapon in case you get disarmed :)

Ok, so to be able to pvp you should know the game's mechanics, know what all the spells do, know the sound aswell as the graphic effects.
This might sound alot, but i am pretty sure you know most of them already.

Why not just join a faction, join a guild, and learn from there ? I will answer this to you now.

PvP is not about learning, it is about experience. Sure a guildie can tell you to cast this or that and you learn by heart, but then it would not be fun and you would not understand what you are doing.
How do i get experience ? well, on the field. And dont think you will become a pvp god in a night, i will break this down to you, you will die, alot.
And for this not to be a problem, you should not join a faction. Waiting 20mins after each death is not what i call fun, and you would probably quit trying after a day or two.
Please remember that even if it makes you use shiny artifacts, factions are meant for the pvp "elit", its fighting on a competitive level.

Getting a pvp template or suit is not hard, thanks to imbuing. Ask around what a basic template would be, make a cheap suit and your good to go.

So as i was saying, try to find a few people thats like you, mess around, have fun, die, res back, fight again, kill, laugh about it.

At first you will feel the adrenaline fill you, before each duel you will be able to feel your heart pound in your chest, when the time comes to fight you will probably stress out and forget what key does what, but thats not a problem, in my opinion this is a good thing and it will go with said experience.

Now that you have the basics, take your friends, go to yew gate or do a spawn, and if some nasty PK come, show them that you will answer back, you will probably die, but at least you fought, and you gained experience, you saw this pvper do things that were smart, you will try and do the same combo next time, and maybe tweak it a bit to make it better or fit it in your pvp style.

Now for the "medium lvl" pvpers, here are some other tips.

Maybe you think using potions is cheating, but it is necessary to pvp, sadly. Using them will make you at least twice as hard to kill, and it helps ALOT.
Maybe you should try them out.

In duels, using big spells is not recommended, in my opinion the biggest spell you will be able to cast is a lightning.

Let me explain why :

For me, a duel is not about killing the oponent, this is not a goal, its a result.
A duel is all about disrupting the oponents spells, getting safe from death yourself, and throw a few damage spells when i see the oponent make mistakes.
This is what i do, and with experience, you will see that dealing damage while disrupting enemy AND healing yourself is not so hard afterall.

The goal of your duel is to disrupt the enemy from killing you, he casted an explosion ? oh no he wont, you throw in a smaller spell and cast on him to make sure he doesnt land it on you, etc etc.

The rest i can't explain, this is just basics, you will learn from experience ( damn experience eh ? xD ), you learn everything by yourself, which makes you unique as a pvper, each and every single pvper has his unique way of pvping, this goes so far that i can tell who i am fighting just by the way this said person fights.

If you have read this far i thank you, you are not forced to even try this, but it could be fun for you, and for your oponents.

*You decide to step away from the guard zone in yew fel gate, just to see what is happening, you see a house, and you can see a weird wooden box hanging on its wall. As you get closer, you can see engraved on this wooden box "Open this box to see whos the most important/needed person in fel". You open it, you see the reflection of yourself throught the mirror that was in it".

I remember when I was that guard zone noobie, everyone has to start somewhere... The only way to improve is to fight... Fight outnumbered, fight where the odds are not stacked in your favor. Fight against friends, improve daily and maybe Europa PvP will be revived.

Lovely and empassioned post, Don Juan.

It'd be great to see the PVP in Fel become more active.
Perhaps we can look at running a few events between ourselves and the 'Fel crowd' to bring in some interest and understanding about both sides?

We had someone approach us yesterday actually with the idea of scheduling a few fights between the RP crowd and the Fel lot - with or without special gear, would you be interested?

Doing a few events with you would be just wonderful, perhaps we should set a few things just to try it out, i am also up for some fights between RPers and.. erm .. normal item-addicted pvpers hehe, with or without items, it is all for the fun.

Anyways here is my icq 345 202 082, this could be fun

I remember one tip on the first UO Manual : "You will die A LOT". Understand this and you'll be fine. PVP is not fun if your Ego can be broken by a couple of consecutive Deaths or if you can't get over that in 5'.

The best explanation of pvp I ever heard of!:thumbsup: A few of my guildmates and I are just beginning to "restart" in pvp after a break of like 8 years:D
Although we are one of the largest guild on Europa (ELV) we seem to have problems getting enough folks in the field. And I agree with you the greatest problem is Ego. Alot of us in our guild take it personally when they get owned. My opinion is to take it with the right spirit
A few of us are doing Fel champs lately and we sometimes get raided by 2.0 :D Well needless to say that we get owned by these seasoned pvp'ers:bowdown: Well its not my opionion that if you mess with the best you die like the rest. Its rather mess with the best to be one of the best ...or at least try :pie: We are atm "refixing" or at least trying to make our temps more pvp competive..And as you stated we had no intention to join factions but rather set up some pvp teams. Waiting 20 minutes is not funny as you said
Yeah we need alot of training! And again everybody give a big hand for Mr Don Juan!!

Thanks Don.

Id like to say a thanks to ELV who are starting to venture into fel more and are starting to try. Sure you will die most of 2.0 members have been pvping for 5+ years and you dont learn it overnight as Don stated.

The only way to get to grips with pvp is experiance the more you try the more you learn. You begin to work out what what works with what and what dosnt work.

A good tip from myself would be to think about you templates the strengths and weaknesses if there is a weakness is it really worth it for the strength?

When you get to the level of faction pvp you will be at a level where you know templates and other peoples you will know their weakness and what to avoid.

Many of you are quick to judge a pro pvper of cheating but most of the time we know what your major weakness is and exploit it.

For those just starting out do as Don suggests and when you start to venture out into fel id advise the following:
1 - Stick together (if you split up we have a massive smile on our faces)
2 - Try to concentrate on surviving at first (this will make you better later on because you will know what things need to be instantly dealt with and what can be left ticking away.
3 - concentrate on making sure your team survives its the same as point 2
4 - If you get away alive maybe at first loosing 1 person out of 3 take that as a result because believe me no pvpers like you getting away.
5 - now your surviving start to inflict damage

They may seem pretty basic but majority of our kills come from people just in a blind panic to escape stick together and keep trying!

Hey nukeworker, I like your attitude, it may interest you to know that 2.0 were founded on and still have the majority of ex ELV players.

We just got sick of people like riva running off and hiding when we got raided instead of healing us.

And likewise Pjay thanks for the useful tips:D You are right about us not sticking together...well the prob is we need something like teamspeak etc..Erm what do you guys use? Or is that top secret? hehe Well typing can get pretty annoying especially if you have the macros set on one key etc. As i mentioned before i advised strongly against my guild mates in joining a faction guild..Well they think its better so we can those highend faction items...prob is you need enoug points for that hehe.
What do you think? Should we put a char in a faction guild? But for the beginning I would much obliged if you could tell me what kind of communication you guys use?

Many thanks in advance Pjay

Gawaine I think mentioned that some of you where former members of ELV. But I didnt realize that it was that many. Well i guess you have to have the right attitude for pvp..If you dont? leave it!
Like I mentioned before some of us residents of "Barneyland" take it too seriously or even personal when they get owned :D Hell that aint good for your blood pressure:hahaha::hahaha:
Working as a radiation protection technician in a nuclear powerplant ...now that is serious hehe..And at times personal well here in Germany at least. But dont want to get off topic:scholar:
Well Riva is a different story ...she hates pvp...Which of course i respect..Its not everybodies thingy...She is a nice person and i like her alot but i only saw her one time at primevil as she doesnt venture to fel alot..So I really cant comment on her about not healing Until next time Merv *tips hat*...Darn server is down agaaaaain :-(

3 rules to enjoying pvp.

1: Never be afraid to die.
2: Stay calm
3: Communicate

There is 1 additional rule which I always adopt......find a guild healer; a guild healer will be much better at healing you in pvp than you will be at healing yourself..........Thankyou Pjay! :D

Sorry for the late reply i somehow kept missing this thread.

The common tools for a pvp guild are as follows:

1. Ventrillio (voice communication)
2. UOC (and a server so you can see where your guild buddies are)
3. If using the classic and best client uoassist

Enjoy!

I haven't been online much and i had a smile on my face when i saw that some people actually replied !!

It is nice to hear that some are trying pvp, its extremly good, Nuke i wouldn't suggest you and your friends join a faction, you would spend more time in stats than actually pvping, but i guess its everyone's choice at the end of the day.

I have stopped playing for a while now im pretty busy enjoying my holidays xD
But i know 2.0 are there and it is nice, and they are improving a lot.

If anyone needs any information on anything concerning pvp, you can add me on icq : 345 202 082

OH I have alot of questions:) I found out yesterday painfully that a sampire simply does not work..Especially against toons using mystic *smirks* Oh I know there is no such thing as a template with godlike powers..that wouldnt be a good idea anyway..No but it seems the good ole classical dexxer might be a good thing to do nowadays?
