PVP dwindling?

I played siege for alot of years and came to atl for the only shard left with a population.

Ive noticed something that kind of startles me, Im seeing a trend in the last year that is matching SP. There are less and less people to and teh new faces that are popping up dont compete with the names that are leaving.

This is the last game left with decent pvp i hope the Uo gods can find away to turn this trend around before the last server left becomes the pvp graveyard siege became.

This is by no means a hate thread and as i play way more than i should id say the information is fairly accurate, unless im missing the fact that alot of people are xfering off atl to antoher shard. If so id like to know the name of said shard.

In UO, a 10v10 is a pretty active night of PvP. Anything more is nostalgic and anything less is dwindling, I suppose? I pretty much just play League of Legends now for my PvP needs. As mentioned in the locked thread, EA doesn't do enough to regulate cheaters or bugs, which makes UO PvP eventually pointless. However, once EA finishes the dueling arenas, I think you'll see UO PvP bounce back a little.

Funny how so many have gone to LoL for PvP and its FTP. o_O its an okay game, I prefer it over WoW pvp, but prefer UO pvp over both :)

Another reason PvP is possibly seeming slow right now is due to the weather changing, spring is here and summer is on its way. Things tend to get slow.

Overall for the long term, I wish I knew.. prolly what GVP said tho. =(

I would imagine it is due to the time of year. I know my evenings are now filled with yard mowing, ball practice with the kid, me playing ball, planti........ you get the idea.

Yep have to ride out the month for the end of school night bedtimes. Year rounders nothing slows them down.

And then their is the unmentionables that we tried to explain years ago to the unwilling, that claim us to be the unknowing, to be the impossible fix.

LoL being a FtP was a big "seller" for me ;). Also the matter of there being like over a million players. For those who haven't played LoL, it's basically a 5v5 RTS RPG in 3D iso, but it plays more like an arcade fighter game (you choose one of over 40 premade "champions" to fight as).

I've never played WoW.

The players are down. UO needs to focus on content and get rid of this quest crap.

Its boring boring boring. Okay my opinion. Rephrase... they have to stop wasting time on this one and done BS.

Random adventure. Random exploration. Things that come and go. Even loading up odd items on vendors in different cities. Making monsters and loot change in the dungeons. All the stuff I spoke of before and other players too.

My prediction. Set up distillary. Make some stuff. 10 days its done and no one wants it. If it isnt dynamic and we all produce the same 5 items... what is the point.

This.

I think we have all said that a true revamp of the old systems would be the easiest way to add new content with out a new expansion. SA was not bad as the content is usefull and has some value but the pirate one was a waste of time. I believe that I had read that most of the coding was finished for this a few years back but it was never produced...go figure.

PvPers need to deciede on a east and west coast shard and head there and fight eachother. Everyone complains there is noone to fight but never do anything about it. On Baja they whine all the time but seem to get a kick out of reskilling girlscouts. Europa pvpers all left to play a free shard.

Atlantic hasnt been a pvp hotbed for about 2 yrs now, when VIP!, MM, HOT/Cow, LNR, DEI/CYN were all active that was the most fun I had in UO.

Other problem is PvPers would rather team up than to fight eachother which leads to no PvP.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. Did you play it, or just see it? ;P For those jaded by tile-based PvP devoid of skill shots, LoL is a nice escape (if you have the computer to run it, that is). Something modern and more challenging. UO PvP can be fun, but like it or not it's primitive. Everything in UO has a bind or is controlled entirely by an RNG, and you have to overshoot a player to land a dexxer blow because the game display and the server aren't in sync. Hell, you can't even sit down in a chair as a gargoyle in UO. You want to PvP a gargoyle? Just throw out a chair. It's almost like people are afraid to point out the inherent flaws in UO, as if it's this bit of nostalgia that can't be touched. However, UO does have that nostalgia factor, and to bring the topic back to focusing on UO again, yes, I believe the arenas will bring UO back to a state in which PvP is more focused. And the repeated bit of the nicer weather and more activities cutting into UO time.

I can't speak as to the pvp, because I don't. But do you know what's been wonderful the last few weeks on Europa? The lack of pvp smack talking in global. It's been great to be able to actually have a conversation with folks and not be interrupted with effing and blinding and all the other crap they come out with. It's been sooooo peaceful!

The arenas could work quite a bit, but if you start seeing people scripting, it'll kill the concept before it has a chance to grow. I'm willing to give them a try, but if I see somebody doing something they shouldn't be able to do, I'll walk away from the arena stuff and not look back, and just confine my PvP to EVE.

I hope the devs understand that if the arenas are done right, it could give a nice boost to PvP, but people will not tolerate the scripts or any other exploits.

1) in your own words you dont pvp but you decided to chime in on a pvp thread? Very relevant & constructive. Ty

2) you do realize that "peaceful" in a mmorpg = server shutdown right?

This is the last game left with decent pvp i hope the Uo gods can find away to turn this trend around before the last server left becomes the pvp graveyard siege became.

A lot of people I have met over the years playing Ultima Online, stayed the hell away from PvP because of the rampant cheating.

Playing against someone using scripts, hacks and blah blah to get the upper hand, is not fun and a lot of people prefer not to just deal with it althougether.

Unless the Developers will finally find ways to get this game rid of cheating, I doubt there will be much come back to PvP.

Unfortunately, even after the announced "spreadsheet", we have seen not much to get UO rid of cheating. It's depressing and, I think, does not help the game at all, long run.

But what can players do about it ??

If those in charge to run and maintain the game do not rid it of cheating there is not much that players can do other than look for other games to play.....

"Do not worry about cheaters" ??

Well, a LOT of players DO worry about fellow players playing their SAME game cheating because that cheating HURTS THEIR GAME PLAY.

So, when I hear talks about "not worrying about cheaters...." but then hardly see anything done about cheating in the game I find it most incredible.

I do believe I can put my thoughts into a thread. It's allowed, y'know! My comment was on the lack of smack talk, and how it's not been interrupting the normal business of the shard.

Now, why on earth would you think that peaceful = shutdown? Did I say that no one else had been talking? I don't think so! What I said is that other people have been able to converse without the garbage from the smacktalkings interrupting the conversations. It's not been at all quiet in terms of other folks, just in terms of smacktalkers. Which is why I used the word peaceful.

I don't think the pirate expansion was a total waste of time... It was needed and if we had the players to make it work the PvP from ship to ship would be TONS of fun. However the fact remains that the game is filled with bugs and cheats... this coupled with the ancient graphics and engine of the 2d client makes the game 100% unmarketable.

Fact is folk come back.... get pissed because the same cheats and bugs are STILL here after 5+ years and then they quit again in disgust and frustration.

The Economy is borked and returning players or new players quickly get frustrated .... not only from that but the bugs, cheats, and the bad attitude of some players... scammers and hackers and low life scum in particular and folk get very upset with the lack of EA Support as well.

It's hard to get the codes to work..... there isn't a very good tutorial for the game.... it's difficult to come back after a few years because it's hard to catch back up on all the new changes.

There is little by way of figuring out what is what without spending months or weeks reading and researching.... folk don't want to put that sort of time into learning the games.

Sandbox is good but it also works against us. Many don't understand the concept and folk get frustrated when trying to get help and they do try to use General chat but with all the foul language bad attitudes and just plain rude behavior by some of the folk and few willing to help or give good advice.

Sadly "we" the players are actually a big factor and detrimental to our goal of having more players.

That and the bugs and cheats.... Which falls on the DEV's. As for the last two things SA and the HS expansions..... Those have been wonderful in my opinion. Fixing the age old movement on the seas that was buggy as all get out and improving fishing and boat fighting is a big BONUS... Adding the Imbuing and spawns in SA another HUGE bonus... especially since I see these things are something that can be Added too in future expansions...

I think the current team is giving their all for the game but sadly they are far too few to really make a huge difference ..... and they are over taxed with burdens left by previous teams... Sadly EA has abandoned UO to the scrap yard... and is just reaping the rewards till it's milked dry.

One of the other things I will drop in the lap of the Team is the horribly poor communication.... Try at first but soon as they feel the heat they go into hiding.... sadly this behavior is the norm and has been repeated many times over..... I think Draconi and his predecessor who's name escapes me right now were FAR better at communicating than the current team.

Sadly without good communication between the DEV's and the Players what you end up with is things that players simply don't care for... which drives more away.

So... Does that answer anything?

Right now more and more are becoming like me increasingly frustrated... and sad. I love UO but watching all my friends leave is making it more and more difficult to stay and enjoy the game.

Last night on Napa was very active for a few hours. PVP has become the same few people logging in the same shards, at least on the west coast. I would love to see more activity around spawns and not around the gate but such is life.

Just to add my two cents to the idea that the pirate addition would have worked with more people...no chance without some decent reward or claim to fame. You want myself and 4 guildmates to float accross the sea and not be able to board your ship, kill you and loot everything? What a waste of time.
