[Magery] PvP Caster build - healing/support

Hey guys,

Total PvP newbie here - just looking to dabble into making a character after 6 months of PvM.

Basically looking at a Mage support - i expect a lot of healing for group fights/support as main role. Looking over some other threads etc I was thinking the following template:

Magery 120
Eval 120
Med 120
Inscription 100
Parry 120
Resist 120
Focus 20

Running with a mage weapon [Balakai's maybe?] / shield.

Other options:
I thought of was dropping Inscription / Parry and going with Anat/Healing - although i appreciate this causes the same problems with needing dex that having parry does.

Dropping parry for Mysticism.

Mystic/Focus would let you use cleansing wind on your guildies to heal and remove curses at the same time. I run 120 Mage/Eval/Med/Resist/Weaving 100 Scribe. Weaving is great for summoning pixies, thunderstorm can be nice in a group fight and you can cast gift of renewal to heal yourself/guildes. I haven't played with mana shield in pvp since the masteries came out but it could be useful in pvp.

Edit to add that the downside of mysticism or weaving is loss of focused mage status and the 30% sdi cap.

Ah, interesting - so focused mage is probably a better all around option for offense and defense.

Mystic / Focus looks a strong option too because of cleansing wind - guessing that'd involve dropping Parry and Med or inscription.
Interested to know if the 120 Parry [costing 80 dex from what i read] is worth it for the defense?
Also how much do you feel the loss of the 30% SDI?

I think this is a really interesting, and indeed challenging, goal.

Your biggest problem, imo, is going to be finding the players who will stand still long enough for you to heal them. UO pvp is so dominated by mobility and ingrained self reliance...at least in open field, that it can be really hard work staying in range. IF you have people who trust you enough, great..you will make a real difference. When the aggro turns on you, you will want to be a roach mage so keep the parry and dex. imo.

Cleansing Wind is great but sloooow. Nice to have one on a spellstone though. Para and fields are also things you should be casting. Don't go Inscription, that's an aggressive template which is not what you are wanting to do. Focus mage is also aggressive...add other skills if they help you heal. The more you compromise the template by adding aggressive abilities, the weaker you will become at doing the job you describe. UO, like many games, over-rewards specialisations that push the boundaries to breaking point.

Mind you, I can't play mages..never could..so don't trust my opinion. I'm just a game theory analyst..hehe.

Thanks - appreciate the feedback.

I suppose the other option would be Alchemy for enhanced potions [useful if i get disarmed and also for keeping high Dex for parry]
