How much does Protection lower your Resist Spells with Inscription?

I know its supposed to be a lesser amount with Inscription then if cast without.

Good question. I strongly suspect that the spell will still suck, but I'm a little curious as well.

Aye...but I am experimenting and I have realized after Protection lowers resist....you can raise your skill back up with items...

I am building a 120 resist Protection Mage.

I can see the situational advantage of that, to be sure. Something I might look into myself.

On the balance, though, surely the penalty to casting rate alone will make this a sub-optimal choice for more situations than not.

Poison
Mana Vamp

on me so much that its impossible in protection to keep up.

But if I resisted the poisons and the vamps and the curses were less effective...then it might be helpful.

Fair enough. I am training up inscription as we speak, myself. When I reach 100, I will try it out and see what the effects of protection are at that point. I'll let you know.

I guess you could carry some pots and orange petals to help against the poison. Normally about the only time I see a mage cast protection is if their fighting against a dexxer with a fast weapon.

Most mages only use it at champ spawns.

But I dont use UO Assist or anything else that helps you target faster...

So, my best chances are with protection on.

Easily my most used spell.

If your worried about resist with protection cast, just cast reactive armor along with it. Reactive armor will give you your physical resist back at the cost of 5 in each elemental resist. If your building a character that you want to run with protection on cast R/A along with it to even out your resists.

Resists arent a big deal. I can put together a all 70's suit easily with the negatives of Protection and such.

My problem is the actual skill Spell Resistance.

Like I said...in protection...the only thing that really hurts me is Poison and Mana Vamp.

But if I am 120 Resist while in protection...then it might be amazing.

It lowers it 30..my temp is 120 magery 120 med 120 med 120 focus 115 resist 100 inscription.

With protection on it goes down to 85..need to get me a 120 resist scroll so i can get a nice round 90 =]..then adjust my ring so I can go for 100.
