General Protection clears on death now...

design, and it's been clearing on death for several years, as has Reactive Armor, Magic Reflect, etc.
If yours hasn't been clearing, they you've been the benefactor of a bug for at least 3 years.

I believe this was changed back in Publish 58. Most buffs and/or debuffs should no longer persist through character death. Some buffs do however persist through character death such as Incognito, Gift of Life, Accelerated Skill Gain, etc..
Gift of Life clears on login. So if you lost connection you must recast it. Not possible sometimes if this happened in busy area while you hidden.
