Project Zoo: What do you all think?

We've been knocking ourselves out for something close to a week now without making any progress. Level 8, level 9, level 8, level 9, the yamandon's been in and out of the zoo like a dang yo yo currently we're on level 8 again, so it's out.

Also I've been informed, even if we get the silver steed it will take a daily input of around 330k points - that's 850 drakes or almost 5 million gp to keep it there.

So how does everyone feel about it?

But theres no point..the zoo as been filled b4 alas it soon empties again as the point decay far to fast....the decay time needs to be reduced drastically to make it worth while maintaining a full zoo

I don't fully understand the zoo system, sadly.. Is there not a level you can reach where it will keep refreshed or something?

to a lot of people, 5 mil is not a lot of cash, although on a daily basis it sure would add up.

It must be possible to get the silver steed in there, then hold a Europa community party at the the Zoo, get some nice screenies and keep those for the good and proud memories, but after that we fear it will be hard to keep enough people interested in ... well, 850 drakes per day, nuff said.

We still try to do 10 drakes per day each, but this morning were a lil late for work so missed it... And away for the weekend... so there goes another 60 drakes... so hard to keep up CONSTANTLY...

No, it's turning into work and not enjoyable.

As well as checks, and all the gold donated from every training session/hunt I've done since this kicked off, I put drakes, dragons, reptalons, white wyrms and wolves into that donation box only to see it see-saw back & forth from level 8 to 9 and back again.

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed in whatever their chosen manner.

I'm proud of us, we did great, it was fun and community spirit was upheld. That was the essense, the point, to me and it's been accomplished.

The sphinx is level 10. The Steed is the final achievement at level 11.

I know Drachenfels did it, but if you read the thread about it you discover that someone ploughed his entire fortune into it.

A very altruistic move that I, for one, don't expect anyone, anywhere to match.

We gave it our best shot, we proved we're a community to be reckoned with in terms of effort and supporting each other. We can be proud of ourselves I think, but now it's time to say 'enough is enough'. We all have our own projects that we've put on hold for this, plus there's the event to look forward to this weekend.

Why does there need to be "all or nothing"? It´s not realistic that we can reach and then keep tier 11 at this rate, unless other people than the boardies get involved. But that doesn´t mean we have to give it up all together. I´ve always had a soft spot for the zoo, but never quite put in the effort to donate before. Usually I dropped of one or two unicorns a week while ggs:ing, but nothing more. This project has really "opened my eyes" and I know that I for one will continue to donate pets to the zoo in quite large numbers even if there isn´t an "official project" going on. Hopefully others feel the same as well, so maybe even if we don´t reach the top and keep it there, we can at least keep the zoo reasonably filled.

Well, I chose option 1 - I think it can still be done, if we have a big BIG drive some point soon to get it up to max. I like the idea of having a party in there once it's done with loads of screenies just to say 'we did it'!

Initially on reading the first posts i was going to vote No. I started this project rolling and i never wanted it to become a chore or work which i have stated previously. But to then see Ayarablue and Aladaria saying yes it can be done and indeed to keep going i dont want to vote no.

I will leave this upto the rest of the community as to what happens. I fear that if i push too far on this project then there will be negativity flowing and that is something I dont want.

Whatever the outcome the Europa community has yet again shown how wonderful it is and for that i thank all of you who have got involved in whatever role you chose.

Afraid I've not been taking part in this yet, mostly due to time issues. But I have to make an observation here.

I'm sorry but welcome to UO...
I've been trying to get a heartwood Runic for over two years since ML came out, hundreds of thousands of boards gone, no reward, until very recently.
I donated bokutos to get folded steel glasses, again, tens of thousands of bokutos, hundreds of trips, and I wasn't even close to my reward. So I bought the damn things.

Also, I've been using a Reptalon ever sicne ML came out. Yep, no overpowered ridiculously broken Cu-Sidhe for me, and no I still don't have a Greater Dragon.
I've been trying to get the devs to realize how immensely out of balance Reptalons are for a very long time, yet noone listens.
(bear with me I have a point)

This is UO. In UO you have two choices, you either WORK, long, boring monotonous work, for the reward you want, or you script it.
Complaining that a handful of people had to work for something for a week means you really don't get the point of UO. UO is work, it's simply how it's designed.

Now, the Community Collections, Heartwood runic chances, and my poor Reptalon are all examples of utterly broken game features.

And here you are, a whole group of dedicated people who have genuinely tried to play the game the way it was designed, and failed. You're just going to give up because the game mechanics are totally faulty? NO!
Do what I do for the Reptalon, and what more people should be doing for UO, show these numbers to the devs, post a new post every day, annoy people to no end until the devs realize that their game design is flawed, and fix it.

UO is a broken game, systems like these were obviously designed to be only available for scripters (what you're telling me you're going to manually recall back and forth between Zento and Britain carrying one hundred thousand Bokutos for a pair of glasses? and ENJOY it?)
This needs to stop, and noone's gonna do anything unless you guys do.

Anyways I'm not taking responsibility for the donations for zoo, you lot did the hard work, I just looted a idoc that I believed belonged a scripter (I'm not going to flat out accuse them of scripting as they are not here to say thier side)
As I don't like scripting, scripters etc and I don't want to gain as a by product of a scripter, I donated the checks I got, to the what I believed was the good of the community.

Altho it has since been pointed out to me that as I was prepared to donate checks the tamers amongst you will no longer wish to tame for the zoo and I am now solely responsible for keeping the zoo stocked *laughs* .. sorry that aint gonna happen

Main reason why I think this is turning into a job and is not enjoyable, is of course the decay, altho I'll continue bringing the occasional few drakes when I can.

I suppose there's a poetic irony in that the presumed ill-gotten gains were thrown into one of the biggest gold sinks in the game and thereby taken out of circulation.

If we could keep it full by donating 10 drakes per day, as Tabby does, I think we would be happy to keep it maintained, but since I doubt if the shard has 85 - 90 tamers able to do that I suggest we just do as much as we can to make sure we don't lose the steed before tonight and then pray that the devs take pity on us.

Party at the Zoo, any time from 7.00pm onwards.

I'll be putting my chef to work making souvenirs for the occasion.

I plan on donating money, when will be the best time for that? The zoo is currently at tier 11 with 12045087 points and 0 points needed for next tier, as I suppose there is no tier 12.

If we aim at keeping it where it is, and considering the decay rate, when will be the best time to donate? Is there a best time?

Alas I think what kiara did was the only reasonable solution given the current system.
It shows that community collections are a gold sink targeting the wrong players.

It's sad but I think we can only count on gold donations. Pets will only slow down the decrease. And it shall not become a work.
