Professional Titles

I think we should be able to elect any skill at GM or above as our displayed professional title.

The skill states would be: Up, Down, Locked, and Displayed. You would elect a skill to be displayed (<o> eye icon) and set the others as you please. The displayed skill flag would override all the current rules concerning which profession is uppermost. Only one skill could be flagged as displayed at a time.

This would be helpful to those professions that aren't scrolled to 120. My GM Shepherd could allow her magery to raise to 115 without losing her shepherd title. My 120 Smith/Tailor could have a GM Merchant title from Item ID. Scribe mages could be known as GM Scribes and bombers could be known as GM Alchemists so we identify them at the bank for trading purposes.

Opinions welcome. :spider:

This is something I have always wanted. they did that lame workaround with allowing the highest unlocked title to show above equal locked skills, but I would prefer this method.

SWG had this method.

I'd like this too, or even to have a group of titles not currently in game to reflect if someone has GM'd a group of particular skills.

I'm in. This idea has been tossed around for for at least the 9 years i've been playing. You would think they could come up with something to make this feasible.

someday there will be a simple drop down menu of titles you've earned that you can choose to display.

hang in there

Hey yeah that is a pretty good idea. I would much rather have the title I want to see then something that sounds mediocre.

I too have been a strong wishful-thinker for this. I enjoy playing my primary character as a merchant. He is in charge of most all of my business transactions, from cross-shard trading to vendors. I keep all of his skills at GM, so I can keep his "Grandmaster Merchant" title from having GM Item ID. To PvM, I have him scrolled out with such things as magery but just use jewelry and such to bring him to his cap rather than go as far as 100.1 and lose the Merchant title. I was just relieved to see a mechanic years ago where I could just lock the other skills to have this title shown. Item ID is easy... it's set as "appraisal" in the list, so I think just alchemy, animal lore, and animal taming take the seat above it. I'd like to see my scribe be a "scholar" rather than an arcanist or mage, since he runs my library. :)

Agreed.
Players have been asking for this for ages. A few years ago, EA added the bandaid fix that made the "set to up=displayed" profession title, but that only allowed display for maximum-skill profession, effectively denying any skill that didn't come with a scroll.

That said, I WANT MORE:

First off, displayed profession is a decorative feature, and not one that presents any game balance issues. What skill-profession is displayed make no more difference than the color of your hair.

Thus, ANY skill at any level should be able to be chosen as the displayed profession,
EG.
120 Magery, 100 Meditation, 50 Inscription...
Should be able to choose to display any of the following:
Legendary Mage
Grandmaster Stoic
Apprentice Scribe
OR EVEN CHOOSE NOT TO DISPLAY ANY PROFESSION TITLE AT ALL.

Secondly, Fame should have NOTHING to do with wether or not the profession title is displayed. (How many dragons must my Cook clobber with his frying pan before he is awknoledged as a cook?)

Profession titles should be like calling cards: show it, don't show it, entirely up to the player.

The only thing that players SHOULDN'T be able to do is display a title that don't have, such as "Legendary Tamer" when their Taming skill is not 120.
