Has anyone tried pre-training a tameable up to their hard skill cap in a skill that goes over 100?

I'm specifically curious if you could pre-train one of the new dragons up to its skill caps and then tame it to have a stronger dragon. I did a brief test of this and the dragon I was training didn't gain any skill, but his skills were high enough that it's entirely possible that he just didn't get a gain during my brief test.

As usual with your experiments, Sarphus - I like your thinking! Keep us posted if you manage to make any progress... only thing I can think of to hasten any visable results would be to "tag-team" train a relatively average super draggy, so that it's pretty much constantly munching on something... lord knows, if a shadow ele can gain in skills from being beaten on, so could anything else.

The only thing that's different from a shadow ele is that the super dragon has skills over GM.

Indeed... trying to think of a relatively "easy" critter you could try this on without too much bother from surrounding aggro spawn. Could be worth sending Jeremy a pm about it and hope you get an answer. *shrugs*

You could always try herding the draggy away somewhere quieter, I took one way out of Fire Temple for taming. I just kept attacking it with my cu, then as the cu got low on health I mounted and scarpered to vet up.

Wish I'd lored before and after now *grumbles* :p

I experimented with this a bit but sadly it doesn't work. Wild creatures with skills that are already over GM will not gain in them. Skill below GM will gain but I can't think of any situation where that would be usefull.

For my test I picked one of the Rune Beetles that spawn at Yamandon Point. I kept a close eye on this beetles health and provoked it to attack a few dozen of his brothers (after discording those). I spent probably about 2-2.5 hours doing that.
During that time Eval and Poisoning (the skills that matter) didn't move an inch. Ofcourse that could just have been bad luck, specially Poisoning is notorious for gaining slowly. Wild Rune Beetles can also have up to 110 meditation though and we all know how fast that skill gains! The Beetle I was working with had just below GM meditation when I started, and quite quickly gained all the way up to GM but that is where the gains stopped.

Ive also done some experiments with this pre tame training. And as alrdy posted they will not gain past the alrdy set max or gm in skills. Ive also tryed for stats. This doesnt work either Ive found that training stats requires anatomy to be gm(was the case while I was experimenting) and from 4.1 to gm anatomy took far longer then the allocated time of of 23.5 hours between sever maintanance. My next attempt was to train its resist to gm and hence work its stats from that stand point. It took me about 6 hours to gm the resist on a hyruis. Once done I tryed to train its dex up to 270(135 tamed)from 255 and once again I wasted alot of time.
There was a very detailed post on this about a year ago but I havent the catche or patents to find the link!

Same results as Leto and 5%Luck here. You could get the Anat/Med up -- I had seen some on Test with 100 med because Tamers couldn't tame them and left them there, lol
. Obviously that doesn't help much though since they won't pass 100 :/

I sort of feel like it is bad to try and pre-train because then they are harder to tame, lol...like, these spawn with pretty low Eval, 0 anat and 0 med, and so the longer it trains up, the more chance it has to string together a killing combo on ya.
