Potential Nerf/Glitch Re Stealing From Pack Animals

Seems that the publish we got this morning may have eliminated the ability to steal from pack animals. Don't have a thief to test it myself, but you can find more details in this thread in UHall:

Guess thieves will have to train differently. It's possible. I never bothered trailing a pack horse around with me when training Marie.

Like a week ago I took snooping cause someones begging me into factions (even tho again I see no use for the snooping). I have never stole one item from another player ever, I never used a lamma or any packy. Since Im 120 steal now this has no effect on me.

I'm pretty sure it's a side effect of the no steal from EMs fix. Not sure how the heck that affects pack animals and I suspect it will come as a surprise to the devs too.

It turns out that they never did get pack animal AI working properly, so they've secretly been hiring EMs to control them for years.

ugh, it's lamer than just a nerf on training, I can't steal things off other peoples pack animals now either.

50k gold says they didn't fix "stealing from EM's", they made direct stealing not work on any packs on mobiles that aren't normal players.

mind listing other training methods? My original thief gained entirely from picking stuff from people, but it took years and i never did get above 80 skill.

actually, I gained by stealing from a bag on the floor by my feet in bucc's den. Marie's only a crate thief. I don't have the temperment to be a pvp thief.

That's how I trained stealing on my faction thieves, Petra, underneath the Buc's Den tavern. The NPCs spawn on the steps leading down to the room and yammer at you endlessly about all the kinds of scum you are, but their yammering is pointless.

Another option I could have used was to steal out of barrels on top of Castle British in Trammel (it was within town limits but guards never got close enough to notice). I'm thinking that you could put a bag down on the ground in any town and steal from it and probably not get smacked by the guards if there are no NPCs nearby.

If you have multiple accounts, I would imagine you could also have a character on the non-thief account hold stuff for the thief character to steal and that would enable you to do your training inside of a house.
