It may be very helpful for dev to solve the lag issue if they know who never had the lag.
In my case, I have been playing UO 3-4 hours every night for the last 1 week and never experienced any lag. I live in NJ and use cable for internet from Cablevsion.

The reason that I posted this is that last Saturday (Nov. 15) I attended an auction on chessy. I experienced no lag at all there but the player who sponsored the auction lagged very badly. To me, the lag seems to be an internet connection issue, from ISP maybe?

None of these posts are any help since you did not bother to post polling data, with the exception of the trace route done by shipwrek that at least gives his path from Pittsburgh to Siege.

If you want to help please post polls done with UOTrace from your pc to the server you play. If you don't play on an east coast server please do a separate poll for one of those shards, Chesapeake, Atlantic, Catskills, Great Lakes.

Anything less is just wasted board space.

Edit: please let the polls run for at least 30 cycles (the more the better).

I have no lag after 11:30 PM ET. The lag is terrible prior to 11:30. This is the case every night since the lag started.

Not sure if posting polls is an overkill as we are trying to figure out whether the lag is caused by mythic servers or not. We don't really need to know which isp or which part of internet network has problems. Of course I am no techie and a request from dev may clarify better.

although I haven't done much since all the complaints about lag I have not had any lag at all.I am using suddenlink cable and I live in west texas and using a fairly new computer(bought it in march) that is a basic compaq presario and I just added a cheap vid card(asus en8400) and so far so good.I will try and go hunting later on around the grave yards and maybe doom and see if I can lag myself out. :)

Good idea. Would be helpful if you post which shards you are not having trouble with, though.

The complaints seem to be primarily about the east coast North American shards:

  • Routed through fert07-eqx-iad.ea.com (159.153.224.230) as the second-to-last hop: Chesapeake, Legends, and Siege.
  • Routed through fert08-eqx-iad.ea.com (159.153.224.238) as the second-to-last hop: Atlantic, Catskills, Great Lakes, and Lake Superior.
Other North American shards that I haven't really had trouble with (from Colorado in the western U.S.) seem to be routed as follows:
  • Routed through 159.153.192.230 as the second-to-last hop: Origin.
  • Routed through 159.153.192.238 as the second-to-last hop: Baja, Lake Austin, Napa Valley, Pacific, and Sonoma.
The rest of the shards have always been laggy for me, but I'll list their info just in case it's helpful:
  • The two European shards (Drachenfels and Europa) are routed through fert02-ixe-lhr.ea.com (159.153.156.10) as the second-to-last hop.
  • Oceania is routed through 159.153.188.11 as the second-to-last hop.
  • Most of the Asian shards (Arirang, Asuka, Balhae, Hokuto, Izumo, Mizuho, Mugen, Sakura, Wakoku, Yamato) seem to be routed through 159.153.172.4 as their second-to-last hop.
  • Formosa shard's second-to-last hop is 211-72-252-17 (unless I'm getting a timeout from too many hops, tried adjusting for more and it keeps coming up with this).

I've experienced a lot of lag in UO but I have to say that this is one of the flat-out weirdest cases of lag I've ever seen.

Maybe that's why no one's said much about it, and when they did it was only to try and say it was the Internet? Because it's just so gosh-darned weird they have no idea either?

I haven't experienced the lag on my home computer or connection.

I am connecting over Cox Cable to Chesapeake shard. I will have to wait until I get home to see which 'fert' I get processed through, but it is either fert07 or fert08, if I remember correctly. I am at work at the moment. :)

I diddnt have any lag at all for the first two weeks of complaining. but my roomate had it and were on the same connection, 10mbs + badass gigabit router. pretty odd. then the last three days i cant play uo, getting 26% packet loss and an avg 179 ping. i usually do 26.

im sure it will be over soon.

It's strange I have two computers with uo on it.

From Montana and play GL

My roughly 6 year old computer that runs windows xp has no lag at all

My brand new computer that runs vista is lagging up something terrible.

Same internet connection so I'm pretty baffled why one works and one doesn't

I'm in California.

No changes/lag to west coast servers (pac, baja, origin). <20 ms pings and no packet loss is normal for me.

Normal ping to east coast servers (atl, cats, gl, legends) has been around 80 ms/no packet loss until recently.

For the past 2 weeks, in the morning, pings jump to around 120 ms with little or no packet loss. As the day goes on, it eventually jumps to 180ish ms with little to 20% packet loss. Later in the evening, eventually sometime after 9PM west coast time, the ping will go back to 80 ms and packet loss to 0.

Cross country carrier is either alternet or att backbone. Traceroutes show normal 60-80ms ping until hitting EA east coast servers.

I play Oceania. Only lag I've seen is due to the number of objects in Magincia (which is actually an issue with my machine) but with the recent clean up even this is gone.

I lag extremly on all shards except Europa. I play from Sweden. So i had no problems with lag but that is cause i only play on europa anyway. I wouldnt even know of the lag if i wasnt checking out the shards 3 days ago to see if there are shards with more population and noticed all of them where unplayable. And i remember couple of years ago i had no lag on any shard and than i had much worse pc and conection.
