Good day!

I used to play UO on the Baja shard, and quit in 1999. At the time I had a tower, and several multi-GM characters. I quit when houses ceased to collapse, as that was my source of income at the time.

Anyways, I started again in 2003, but found that not many people played, and to start over was difficult. On top of things, there was nowhere to place a house anywhere. That was sort of disappointing.

Just the other day, I got an email saying to try UO again for 14 days. My friends and I have been looking for a game to try, and I thought maybe UO would work for us.

Are there any new shards, with a decent number of players, and places to actually place houses? Did they ever start the houses crumbling again?

I sure wish I could remember my old account name/password...

Thanks in advance for the answers.

Yeah, house decay was turned back on in January 2004 - and things were nuts the night that it happened, from all the people running around. I think some people referred to it as the great UO fire sale.

Most shards have plenty of room. The only one really crowded is Atlantic.

Legends was opened up to all (instead of being AOL specific) and Origin was created since you last played in 2003, but they are really low population. For that matter, so is my own shard, Lake Austin (the last one created before AoS).

Baja is probably as it ever was, only with lots more housing. Getting back started is fairly easy these days, especially since a lot of the skill and stat gain restrictions were lifted (no 8x8, for example). Gold weighs 1/3 of what it used to, and 5x as much drops from champ spawns (of course, the bosses got buffed too). Still, getting established once more should be easy, then actually working toward whatever form of endgame you want will take longer.

IF you can find any of the information from the old account, you might be able to contact EA and have them help you recover it.

If you still have access to the same email account, you should be able to to click "forgot my password" (or something to that effect). If not, contact EA.

Welcome back.

Hmm, sounds good... so if I was to fire things up, which server would you guys recommend, for player activity. I understand that a lot of the players have stopped playing, but Id like to have a bit of a community wherever I go.

I guess, which server would be the most active? Is there a site that says server statistics?

Thank you very much for your input so far, I really appreciate it.

Most active is Atlantic, but you should also consider that the Atlantic server is on the east coast of the U.S. Is that near you?

Ah, good call. Im in Alberta, Canada... much closer to the West coast (Mountain time). Is there a server on the other side fo the country that is decently populated?

The more people on a shard the more difficult it is to place a house.

it's kind of connected :)

but west coast maybe starting Baja again isn't a bad idea. if you want a shot at placing a house. maybe some of your old friends are still there also.

You can fairly forget to place a house on atlantic. maybe a tiny one is possible.
