Possible RoT change idea!

How would you all feel if we kept our standard RoT, but had an additional chance to gain more skill points with an additional Power Hour?

-Power Hour starts like it did before, around 15 minutes after logging in, 23 hours from your last Power Hour
-Standard RoT gains start at the usual time for your time zone

Would this be an acceptable change to skill gain for Siege?

I hated power hour.

So I vote no. Just alter rot so you can gain more a day, or more per skill a day. Maybe have some kind of gain bank for when you miss a day.

I never understood why Siege got RoT, all it does is make training longer and alot easyer. Why should a vet shard get an easyer way to train? and at the same time bore you to death with the waiting? :/

Personally I feel that's unnecessarily complicated.

I'd go with increasing the number of gains per day you could get. Say from 3.6 to 5.0 and 2.1 to 3.0?

I also wish there was an option to choose to get 'training' level BoDs for smith and tailor when you hit 70. I quite enjoyed training up till then, each bod matched my skill level and I could train with it. Past 70 I started getting bods I couldn't make, from my point of view, at that stage in my training, those were a disappointment to me.

I think the gains per day should be outright doubled. Then, training a character to full skill would actually take 3 months as described in the Siege FAQ sticked above... instead of the 6 it takes in reality if you get max gains per day.

I still want my mentoring scheme.

Summary
-----------

A new player approaches a player who has 100 or more in a given skill.
The new player uses the context menu on the skilled player to ask to become his student.
The old player can accept or refuse.
If the old player accepts, every time the new player trains the selected skill within line-of-sight of the old player, he gains at double the normal rate.
The old player effectively becomes a blue scroll, or blackrock motherlode.
Once the new player reaches 100, 110, or 120, the old player gets a reward of some sort. I'd like to see the humility virtue brought into play, but there are many other options.

This gain system, naturally, would ignore or superscede RoT.

I'd also like world peace.

I like this idea Otto!

I also like the gain-bank idea. If I'm out of town for a few days, the 2.1 gains accumulate and I can use them up when I get back.

yeah I like the accumalation of points to a degree.... I still think getting thos eblue scrolls here on seieg as quest rewards would be cool....

1. you would have a reason to actually do some of the quests here.....

2. youwould have a renewable resource for newbs to quickly gain skill....

3. fights and economy would flourish as people would rather kill/buy the scrolls outright

Id rather they just moved RoT back to starting at 90.0 rather than 70.0

That would allow people to be competitive rather shortly but still take a good amount of time to actually "finish" the character.

EDIT: Hellfire is now at...

54wrestling
95eval
107magery
97med
90resist

this is 2 n 1/2 months into it... it will probably won't be until feburary-march when you start seeing us. Now that it takes 5ish months before someone can play... taking into consideration it takes a player a split second decision to up and leave UO and a new player to replace that player 5-6 months...

something is slightly off here. it should be 2-3 months before a player is up and able. IMO.

I brought this subject up a few weeks ago while i was standing at Luna bank. Most of the peeps that stopped to chat seemed like they wanted rot abolished. There was a few *coughs* that seem stuck in their ways. I even had my own personal haggler(points at the drunken avatar who lost their lips) But all in all most people seemed ready to get rid of rot.

I like most of the ideas people have posted. Otto's idea seems like a nice fit for siege. It would help interaction with new/old players. I just wonder if uo cares enuff about our small shard to make such a change.

I suggest making siege just like a prodo shard in terms of rot. Let em build their chars as quick as they can. Who cares!! They still have to get pwerscrolls, they still have to farm, they still need millions of gold pieces to compete, not to mention good items. Then on top of all that they need a good surplus because they're gonna get wacked and lose their stuff.

Siege is "rotting" away...we need a change!

Mind explaining in detail what it is exactly this would do for our shard besides make things easy for you so called vets? Was alacrity scroll not enough for you guys?

The idea is to make skill gain easier for Newbs - thus expanding the population.

Yeah I hear ya, only 1 problem though, the skill gaining system is not the reason newbs don't stay on siege.

The major reasons I've heard for people who are interested in this rule set but don't play here are

1) Lag

2) Slow skill gain.

3) No house.

I think changing rot would bring in new players.

I dont want RoT to change because you can guarantee that it would be implemented the very next day after i've completed training my new character the "hard" way.

LOL It's just an illusion that you will ever have a "completed" character. There is no such thing, my friend! I've been here 2.5 years, have 4 characters and not one of them is complete to my satisfaction. Sure, I have complete templates I can run, but there are always skills to work and templates to revamp.

The vision of a completed character is nothing more than a mirage.

The 15 minutes between gains in the higher levels is just insane. I would like to see 5 minutes between gains and a possible 4.0 in gains per day. Maybe roll-over gains isn't such a bad idea either. That would help those of us who can't just play UO all day long every day. It would be much more appealing to people willing to leave fully trained characters on prodo shards to come over and give it a try.

[/ QUOTE ]

But each of us here left fully trained characters to come over to siege and start from scratch. A great warrior isn't created overnight, it takes time and patience, this is what makes you a vet, the learning curve. Example....

QB Tim Couch came from Kentucky (no.1 draft pick), and went to the Clevland Browns, and started his rookie year, well nobody even knows what happened to Couch.

QB Tomy Romo came from Western Illinois and went to the Dallas Cowboys, he sat on the bench for 3 years studying the game, and his teams formation and plays. He is now a 67 million dollar man, and has broken in 1 year, franchise records that took ages to produce.

And Tim Couch was the number 1 draft, where as Romo was like a walk on player that didn't even get drafted. Ok, I know i went way in left field with this one, but I think you get the point.
.... This is why you don't want skill gain too easy for siege, cause lets face it, we are the best fighters in all the lands, and if young players rush in too soon, they will very easily have their spirits broken when they realize they're no match for siege players, and the end result will be them high tailing it back to trammel.
