Portent of things to come?

Melody stretched her arms high over her head. She didn’t remember ever being so tired before.

The news continued to be bad, and there was nothing she could do to stop things from happening.

In a very quiet, private ceremony, Jace had made her Captain of the Guard. She had mixed feelings about this. Thea was still here, although she wasn’t aware of who she is. Melody had gone often to Jhelom, most of the time standing in the shadows watching her sister. She had attempted to speak with her, but Thea was not open to remembering who she was. Melody also knew that Thea recently moved to Trinsic. At least she was somewhat protected there.

John had requested a meeting with Melody, but she had thus far ignored his requests. She was at a loss as to how to get her sister to remember.

Raelyn had returned from her assignment with disturbing news.

She had been sent to infiltrate the orc camp as a slave and gather whatever news she could of the hooded man. This hooded man seemed to be involved in several aspects of the events in Cove; he had something to do with Mason’s kidnapping, and he also had a hand in the death of both of the children that had appeared at the tavern.

What Rae discovered chilled melody.

The hooded man eventually came to the orc fort to trade with the orcs. Rae managed to slip onto his boat and hide before he left the fort.

When the boat arrived at its destination, she was on an island which was unfamiliar to her.

She followed the hooded man and the workers carrying the goods traded with the orcs to a large town of sorts. She discovered that this hooded man was only one of many. The town was a town of hooded men and women. They seemed to speak a strange language to one another, possibly some internal language to protect whatever they were saying from outsiders.

One word stood out as the only one she understood…Caine.

Since she knew she had nothing more to learn at that time, she opted to recall back to cove and report her news.

Melody had listened to Raelyn's report with more and more apprehension.

There was something immediate she needed to do, and knew she needed to enlist the help of someone she was not fond of. The time was now, and if she waited any longer she would be responsible for any consequences.

With a heavy sigh, she picked up a quill and parchment.
