Political topics on Stratics OT

There is currently some discussion going on behind the scenes regarding the future of such discussions on the Stratics forums.
Unmoderated, they invariably lead to a hostile atmosphere, usually dominated by the political position that can shout down those that disagree the most effectively, which is not a traditional component of a good community.

In the short term, I'd like to strongly discourage such subjects.
Further demonstrations of the types of posts that brought this into discussion in the first place are really not going to help things.
