Poisoning related question

Thought id put this in this forum as i reckon us thieves use this skill more effectivly and regularly than other players,

My question is, i know for magery you need 200combined skill points (mage and poisoning) to use DP. Is this the same for melee? or is 80 poisoning the skill required regardless of weapon skill??

So, if i have say 110fencing do i need 90 poisoning?

Technically, you don't need any poisoning at all to use a dp'd weapon. But you will either need enough ninjar skills to throw a star or blow a dart. With any other weapon, you will need at least 70 skill points in the weapon skill and tactics to poison someone...la

WRONG

I run with 0 tactics (Now rising). Shadow Strike and Infectious Strike DO NOT require tactics to perform.

Also for Rich's Question, you only need enough to successfully apply the poison, which if your number is correct, 80 Poisoning.

As Rico said , to "inflict posion" you'll need to use the weapon special "infecting". Like all weapon specials you need either 70 or 90 weapon skill and tactics to initiate the attack. Weather it's a primary or secondary special depends on the weapon you're using.

As far as DP shurikens, I dont even remember what I did with mine after I got my crimson.... Throwing DP shurikens didn't give the level 5 poison like the infecting strike did.

heh- truth eludes you all.........
this is how it works: you do NOT need tactics, 70 OR 90 to shadow strike or poison. This one just (hi rico- saw you in your house near despise) experimented with it on an ettin in despise. Posioned it quite nicely. Wrestling specials also do not need tactics to perform.
HOWEVER- the poisoning skill comes into play in this manner:at 80 skill points in poisoning, you will not fail at poisoning items any longer. You will also have an 80% chance of lethal posioning someone. Not sure if 60 poisoning gives 60% chance etc. Normally everyone uses 80 skill, so there may bs something special about that number besides not failing at posining items. At 100% poisoning, you will of course lethal people 100% of the time. But with no poisoning at all, you will indeed poison people with whatever level poison is on your balde.
Do not take my word for it- go try it out. You will find I am correct.

The power of the poison depends on the type of poison applied to the weapon in question and a character’s Poisoning skill, as follows:

Poisoning of 00.0 - 19.9 yields Level 1 (lesser), with a chance for Level 2 (regular);
Poisoning of 20.0 - 39.9 yields Level 2, with a chance for Level 3 (greater);
Poisoning of 40.0 - 59.9 yields Level 3, with a chance for Level 4 (deadly); and
Poisoning of 60.0 - 100 yields Level 4, with a chance for Level 5 (lethal).

If you have no poison skill you can only achieve level 1, regardless of whats on your blade. <----Taken from UOGuide. Havent tested in a while.

Stratic Fanatic is correct. The information can also be found on Stratics - Special Moves (scroll down to infectious strike)

The 200 skill points is for Mage casting poison / poison fields.

Tactics is not required for the special move infectious strike.

Most dexxers choose to stop the poisoning skill at around 80.
- 80 is never fail to poison a balde
- 80% chance to bump deadly poiosn to lethal
- Lethal (Lvl 5) is what you want when battling a vampire as they are impervious to level 4 and below

This information is buried in the assassin Faq (stickied at the top). It's being rewritten, and yes it has been taken me forever to get it done.

This is almost correct. In order to deal deadly poison everytime, you need 80.1 poisoning. That .1 bumps you into deadly. This also will give you an 80.1% chance of inflicting lethal, therefore making any more skill pointless.

And just because something has deadly poison applied to it doesn't mean you will inflict deadly poison. It all depends on your amount of skill. If you have 0 poisoning, and you manage to inflict a deadly poisoned weapon on someone, it will actually be lesser poison.

that is indeed surprising. This one has never failed to deliver deadly poison, that he has recognized.

This is why UO is an Uber game. You just can never know it all, see it all, or do it all.

Maybe you were dealing deadly poison, because keep in mind, past 70.1 poison you deal greater poison with a 70.1% chance of dealing deadly poison. So if it's at 80, then that's an 80% chance of deadly. Raise it .1 and you'll be dealing lethal the majority of the time.

I should have mentioned in my previous post that shurikens and darts are a bit different.

You deliver the poison that is on the weapon. I'm assuming that most everyone would use deadly poison on them. There is no bumping to lethal with shurikens and darts.

I also belive that the level of your ninja skill determines if you hit your target or not. I could be wrong about that though.

this one did notice that while training necro, for those who have it or are thinking of having it, that evil omen will bump shuriken and dart poison levels.
Q, you are correct in my knowledge concerning hit chance and ninja skill level. The it is like weapon skill- the higher, the more chance of hitting.
