Please now we got the unique char numbers, can we have the tell command too?

I know the tell (tl) command is in the client, was used of counsellors so now where we can see the unique char numbers in the chat I would love to be able to send a .tell to a friend if I not want all to see my message to him.

Y'all remember when UO tried a mailbox on each character's paperdoll? Gosh, it had to be before the virtue system I think. You could dump what is now the virtue thingy (which was a mail icon or something) on another person to add yourself to their address book and you could send messages to one another like e-mails if I recall right.

For whatever reason, that system failed, and UO scrapped it. Now we have this new chat thing going on. I agree with OP about /tells, why not. Would be pretty cool. I do like idea of mass chat though, will be need for shard wide events and also for mass trade. I don't know how well it'll work for trade, but out of Luna options are nice to have, since this is the closest we've ever gotten to a SWG style Bazaar.

Yeah I remember this too and I agree that once the wrinkles are worked out this will become a valuable tool for a lot of UO players. The rest can simply leave the default channel once the system is completely live and never join again. Best of both worlds.

Ironically, it was said to be something to do with the characters' unique ID numbers and having them openly available to the client. I believe the mail system stored your contact list in the Client, and maybe there was some way of altering that list's ID numbers or something... really no idea, just remember that's why they scrapped it was because of that specifically.

All of that would be different if they stored it server-side like most games friends' lists now.
