PLEASE do not manually set your font colors in posts, a lot of people are changing their font colors to black or other dark colors which effectively makes the post invisible on the darker forum themes.....or changing their font color to something light (when posting from a dark theme) making it hard to read on the light forum themes. If you don't manually set a color the themes will automatically color them readable so everyone can read it! Remeber there's multiple themes now.

Examples

People writing posts from light colored themes are often coloring them like this (*Stares at Tina...*)

People posting from dark colored themse are sometimes coloring their text like this

Hmmm....I haven't messed with fonts or colors at all, Raptor. I just type.

you post near the beginning of this thread, Faction Points Being Wiped | Stratics Forums, plus a few others the text is black on a black background. Do you copy long posts from a text editor? Perhaps when you copy them in it hard-sets the color to whatever your text editor color was set to, in those cases it would help to click the "remove formatting" button (the erasor) in the upper left of the post window before posting it. Your posts aren't the only ones though, you just seem to do it more often :p There's at least 1-2 per thread showing up unreadable.

And I really don't like using the themes with the dark backgrounds. It's much easier on my old eyes to read dark type on a white background, so I'm using the "Default Style" theme. So, I don't know what to tell you. I haven't touched the colors or the fonts other than using some non-serif font the other day when I cut and pasted something from Word into a post on the factions forum. I'm not planning on changing to another theme and I really do NOT want to have to change the color of every post from the default black text that I'm using now, so hopefully Syrus has a suggestion on how to make everyone's posts legible.

If you're having trouble reading quotes in my posts, I'm also not doing anything with those either. The most I've ever done with quoted text is to cut out the extra text. I don't play with the colors or the fonts.

Sorry, Raptor!

Nope, the only time recently I've typed anything somewhere else and then moved it over was in that one post in the factions forum. 99.9% of the time I'm typing straight off the top of my silly old head right into the reply box. And if I did type something in another program and copy it over, I would still just be using the default color (black, I hope!!) in the other program. I have just about zero inclination to ever use colors for the stuff I type.

Well, the thing is is you don't color the fonts at all, it shows black on light themes, and white on dark themes. that confirms it though, it's your text editor doing it. If ya could when copying posts in please do "remove formatting" in the upper left and it'll auto-color the post to be readable by anyone. (any lists though you'll have to select and set using this editor however)

Still trying to digg up someone to make us a network-wide custom theme of the lighter variety. Sorry, folks.

tina .... lighten up
Lighten up? I'm fine. I'm not mad! This was good information to have. Besides, I like Raptor. He can't PK me here, but I still like him.

And I'll try to remember that tip about using the "remove formatting" option if I do copy stuff over. I honestly had no idea anything weird was happening. It just looked like I was using a different font. Don't really know what made things changes colors. I swear I never got near the button to change the color.

Screenshot to show what i'm talking about with the colors, for those that havent run into it, I keep running into posts colored like Tinas is in this shot, I prefer the dark themes as they're easier to read, especially in low-light as I normally work.

Hmmm....here's a dumb question for you. I just edited that last post because it had a typo. Is it possible that editing a post screws up the color too?

Okay, that post is the only one I've done recently that I typed outside Stratics and then copied and pasted it over. But I didn't do anything with the color. It just used whatever my default font was in the other program (Calibri in Word 2007). I think I might have started another post today where I copied from that post, but then I deleted the stuff I copied, so I wonder if that mucked up the formatting.

I promise though, I'll try and remember to use the Remove Formatting button next time I copy and paste anything over. Let me know if you continue to have any problems with my posts....err, formatting problems. Problems with the content...pfffft. :p

nah, here's the HTML at the head of tina post (and sorry tina, not pickin on ya, yours i just already have open so it makes for a good example)

HTML:
<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Mayb
what this does is explicitly tell my browser to render the font as black, so it's the page itself doing it.
If you click the "theme" button in the lower left and switch to one of the darker themes temporarily
scroll down in the post i linked to see what i mean (I'm using "Animate", you can click it again to reset quickly after)

Just tested that out, yep, copying from a post with the color set then adding onto it, even if you delete the origional post text, the new text keeps the formatting from your old post, so that's why I've seen at least 2 posts from you today messed up like this :D

It's gotta be from when people copy and paste text from outside (or quote/copy text from a post that did), because as I said it's not just your post....maybe default action when copying text onto these new forums should be to strip color and font settings?

XenForo uses TinyMCE text editor. There should be a button option in the administration setup for the WYSIWYG text editor, that does a Paste As Text option. This strips out any code when copy/paste, but you also lose any other formating - meaning you lose the lists, indents, smileys. I don't think there is any other way around this problem when copy/pasting.

If desired, you can make the editor work like it did on the old forums via your Preferences. It's just Preferences > Uncheck rich text editor.

Again, I am sorry for the trouble.

I've noticed it with several people's post, not necessarily hers. I use the animate (dark background), figured the dark text was just default in a different Style and was gonna ask about that. I copy and paste a Lot (I use Jarte - uses the WordPad word processing engine), everything has looked normal from my side. I think someone else mentioned it earlier too, like black on grey, or something.

Syrus, I looked at the code for a Style (darkness 1.1.2). I thought a simple art thing, something simple... naw, art is just a small part, that xml is Huge, that could take Hours, could ask for volunteers

Well, I've been offering to pay someone, but I really can't afford over a couple hundred bucks and designers laugh at me (literally) when I offer it. One day . . .

Is there any way to fix the type color on a post you've already made? I used the Edit option to open the post Raptor used as an example and clicked on the Remove Formatting button and then saved the post with changes. However, when I log out and view the post with the default style that guests use, it's still showing as dark type on a dark background. (I was also surprised to see that using that button in edit mode did NOT affect the bulleted lists. They remained bulleted/indented.)

This is going to sound shady and unreasonable, and I do apologize...but it might work to copy the text into notepad, then re-add it. May not work... :(

That did, indeed, work. Cleared it all out, hit the Remove formatting button, pasted the new stuff in and hit it again. Then had to redo making the bulleted lists, but the post is now easier to read.

Now if I could just figure out how to hide this section of the thread so the next time Raptor looks at that post he thinks he's seeing things, or maybe hasn't had enough sleep, or something....
