Recently one of my kids convinced me to start playing on Great Lakes more often because "It's much more populated" ..
I dusted off my old Great Lakes Ludes and spent several weeks working him into a Necro/Archer, which is what he said he and his buds needed to round out their party.
We did well and I came around to a point where I needed some furniture for my space.. Spent days spamming on Gen chat and wandering around Luna, Crossroads and all the other known vendor spots.. nuttin. No carpenters selling furniture and not even one response to my Gen chat hollers in six or seven days..
Now I know most people make their own stuff now but I only have this one guy on Great Lakes and it would be cool if I could buy stuff.

Catskills population might look smaller at first glance but we still have a fully functioning economy.. even low end furniture is for sale.

Why would a shard be considered "heavily" populated but have no vendors?

Because all thier vendors on GL are about "show me the money" Isn't it funny how everybody puts down lower populated shards and how they do not mention that on lower populated shards we make this stuff for free or sell at cost to help out others. LOL So much for high populated shards.

Wonder where I was when you were spamming that?

Typically if I'm around and not real busy I usually do things for folk in chat and I can't believe that half the other crafters weren't on to help you out either. Seems strange to me.

I think it's just poor luck. Selling low end stuff is only going to appeal to people who just like to make things to provide them to others, not make a profit. I am sure they are on every shard.

It's difficult to compare a shard you're familiar with against a shard you are just visiting. Just because you know where all the vendors are on your own shard doesn't mean they don't exist on other shards. You just might not be familiar with the locations.

I am sure Great Lakes is like Mall of the Americas compared to Origin though. I think we have about 7 active vendor houses shard wide and most are not selling much if anything. The most expensive item on the shard is a taming blue for 3 million. I do not think there is a single item priced at 2 million and the next is a blanket of darkness at 1 million.

Heck there was a luna house a cross sharder placed during all the RTB fallings and he tried to sell it finally going down to a 10 million asking price. I actually think he just dropped it and moved on.

Kinda makes having multiple hundreds of millions a waste.

I didn't know you played on Great Lakes.. Now you can show me all the spots... Very Sweet.

Definitely another example of how having Stratics friends can help your game play.

And also...

There was once a time when it wasn't about making gold. Some people would just want to play a carpenter. And we would buy stuff from them and they got rich anyway.
But that's all kinda roleplaying and I know not many do that anymore..

Which is EXACTLY why we need Vendor Search... Now you know what it must be like for a NEW player to find anything at their "level" of play... We have a more and more irrelevant Luna (on most shards) and low populations of players... I remember when a short walk out of Brit or Vesper or Minoc would find dozens of vendors selling tons of stuff for players at all "levels".... Vendor Search is desparately needed...

Perhaps.. I'm not against a vendor search but it really defeats the role playing aspect which is important to me..

Stratics worked just fine in my case.. I see it as a bar that crosses all shards.. go in, order a drink.. (preferably from the ABM) and by the end of the night you know what you needed to know and you'll probably learn some new drinking songs!

Really depends on what kind of furniture you need, but if you have a char slot to use you can make a lot of furniture yourself with 50 carp:

-Straw Chair (100%)
-Stool (100%)
-Wooden Chair (100%)
-Trinsic Style Chair
-Vesper Style Chair
-Small Table

You can also make yourself a set of +26 skill jewelry w/ 50 imbue fairly easy for help training skills. Not a solution to your vendor problem, really, but you can make due with 50s sometimes.

If you ever want to spend a few million on the services of a tinker, let me know ;).

MalagAste has characters here... I'm set up now.. Many thanks Malag! It's so much more fun setting up a new character on a shard when you run into a friend...

Today would be the first time I've seen you spam in general chat on GL, and that was for bulk arrows, 500k if I recall. Anyways, if I had seen any other message asking for furniture, I would have made it, most often for free. There are also plenty of furniture vendors on the shard that you so seek. One only has to take a trip to Hearts Inc. in Luna (SE Corner) for example. Outside of luna and on the edges of moongates one can also find an array of "low-end" basics for sale at a pretty cheap price.

Thanks for the vendor location cdavbar.. Took a little longer but I've started meeting some cool people on GL.
It's kinda fun working on a strange shard... adds a little more challenge. I even have to ask around to get someone to mark runes for me when my kids at work.
I'm having a blast with my new character. It's my first guy of this type so exploring his abilities has been interesting.

I did get my arrows btw.
