Recently, a new system of craftable dyes was installed. Clippings from colored plants are used to make the pigments and then a venom is used to convert the pigment into a dye that can color armor and other items. Plants have gotten expensive.
I think there are also new plants since you left that come from the peculiar seeds.

Yeah... the willingless to do the work of growing plants is shrinking too... but the colored plants are what people are after for the blaskets and dyes.
I can bairly keep my small plant vendor stocked:
Most plants, non-flower - 2,500
Flower plants of any kind - 5,000
Shrubs, buth tall and short - 10,000
Most normal color plants sell around 500 to 1500 gold per.
Rare colors... 5k and up just for the basic teal, pink, purple.
Fire seeds, I sell 5k a pop... others 10.
Black and white seeds... 200k each

The hedges seem to see out almost daily at the stores I check...

Rhiannon, yes plants are expensive but if you need a good place to find them where the vendors are usually well stocked try Sinful's and the red and purple mini mall. Both places are almost always stocked!

Figured it would give the gardener's something to do.

The Plant Shop of the Red & Purple is right next to the Mini Mall's house sign... and my actual plant vendor is at the Yew Gate Mall of the Red & Purple. The Plant Shop is owned by a friend, I moved my plant vendor from the MM to the Yew Gate and its hit hard sometimes. Sorry about that.
Thank you all for the interesting information. When I think of the thousands of plants that went bye bye when I cancelled my 10 year old account a couple of years ago. *OUCH*
In contemplating coming back to UO, I am overwhelmed by the changes. But I am also overwhelmed by how "behind" I feel. My character has 60 skill points TOTAL. I had 1000 gp which I turned into 4500 in a few HOURS. No armor (which is fine since I've never been a fighter of any kind). No horse. Wow. I think I have something like 11 more days to decide to hang out for a while. There are so many things I have missed about the game. There are many that I don't. Gardening has always been an appealing part of the game to me because there are no real skills needed. Just a reminder to water the plants.

Too bad most items such of plant prices haven't kept up with the times. 7 days or so planting growing harvesting maintenance using potions and resources for 2k-10k. Compared to whirlwind trog cave for 30k-50k per 5 min. You would have to be really like growing. I grow once in a while myself though definetely only for fun.

The time plus potions plus finding the seeds through hunting or questing.....the value of a plant is higher than what anyone would want to pay for it. If you buy flowers/plants from a vendor regularly and they are stocked you need to give them a huge hug and maybe go hunt up some seeds for them as a gift.....it truly takes a special person to do this much work for such a small reward!
