Normally we wouldn't bother to tame plain ones no matter how good do think with pet costumes this will change?

It is way easier to tame one with good stats than colourful with good ones.

what exactly are you looking for when taming them?
I am told to look at the calculator, but I don't want to have to do that for every one of them.

What I look for in colors are the hits 1150+, and cold and energy resists 75 or below, point wise to follow my flow charts in training. Anything that spawns outside my paramiters are culled.
On another note I went farming plains a couple weeks back for this exact reason, to put on a costume and still have a banging hunter as a mount

Some of the tamers i see there don't even bother to lore plain ones just kill until a colored one spawn

They would be more popular if the single costume was less Sovereigns or you actually got all the costumes like on test Center. Having to pay 800 Sovereigns for a single costume and/or waiting for a particular costume stops a lot of players from purchasing.
HP as close to 600 Str 600+ and cold/Energy 70/70 or as close to it as possible.
What do you fight all the time that you want the 85E just curious
99% of the high HP mobs in the game do no cold or poison damage.
Mostly I do Phy/Fire MOBs so I like the 80/80/70/65/70 balance with 120 Resist
I'm just waiting for the Saint Bernard costume to hit. That is what I want. Then you'll see Nywel riding one.

Same. 70 Cold/85 Energy Resist is what i go for.
