Placing a house.... luck?

I have played the game off and on for 12 years. I have placed hundreds of houses for friends and guildmates. I have found spots that many did not and expanded plots where many didn't think was possible. However, upon my recent return I may have lost my touch.

My friend can place a 17x18 plot next to my home but I cannot. I have been out here for an HOUR trying to replicate a placing that he can do with no effort. At this point, it isn't about placing, but trying to figure out why I cannot place when my friend can.

It's odd, and I am beginning to think there may be a bug....

Which client are you using? Honestly, I have had better luck with the SA client than 2D - exact same plot size and placement too.

If you have moved your play window, you will get the targeting wrong so move it up to top left corner and it should be fine.

Can you place a 16x16 there? that is can you place but just not that size.

Have your friend place and drop a coin marking an edge. See if that helps. If not might be a client issue.

Yep I found something worth value in the new client, the zoom feature. Placed no problem in the new client. Went back to the old client, cannot place. So ya....

Thanks for the help.

I found placing a house alot harder lately. Also is you mark the stairs, line the plot up there, dont leave room for the stairs. It will add them in by it's self. I must have resized my luna house 100 times before I got it at max size. I was leaving room for the stairs, and it wouldnt go, then I tried without adding them and it went down.

Glad to help.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that the new house is just west of the current one... Something about that east-wall (positioned next to a blocking object - like another house) seems to be handled differently between the clients...

It's East. hehe

It's just odd that my friend can drop the plot with no problems and I had to go into SA zoom to do it. Anyway, it is down and the customization begins.

The one thing where the Enhanced Client blows the Classic one out of the water is house placement. A while back I found a location that looked as though it should fit an 18x18, but it was going to be a tight fit. I tried a half dozen times or more with the Classic client. Finally I tried the Enhanced on a whim and with the zoom feature placed it on the first try. I prefer to play in the classic client, but when it comes to placing houses, Enhanced wins hands down.
