PK Proof Housing

What are the general requirements? Do you have to be in the center of a 3 story 18x18 plot to avoid Earthquakes, Meteor Swarms, and anything extra? Do the walls need to cover all 18x18 to make sure Meteor Swarms won't come inside?

It seems like it is very situation-specific. Returning to UO (last played around UO:R, so I missed a lot), I'm not keen on what griefers do these days.

I'll supply pictures once I can afford to build (haha), but it's an 18x18 3 Story that gets smaller as it goes up. The first floor is walls surrounding all 18x18 except for a little 3x3 entrance "box" in the front center. The second floor is an exact mirror of the first floor except the front half is an outside deck. The third floor and roof are a continuation of the inside foundation and are solid walls both covering about 12x18.

Apparently windows make it easy to grief? I am also using all teleporters, no stairs. Just based off of what I've typed, does it sound like I will have an issue with proximity to windows/open space or is it possibly something else?

I'll have more to add once I can post pictures. Thanks.

1.) Perimeter barrier with access controlled gate
2.) Quick access teleporter outside perimeter barrier
3.) Fully enclosed safe room somewhere

Adopt those in some fashion in ANY housing design, and you will be fine.

One of my favorite designs. It was in PK central and if the owner could actually make it to the porch...was very safe. :)

While I was decorating it, a PK gave me a free test (which he didn't realize) trying to find weak places in the design while I was in the perimeter decorating. I did lose a pack animal that went through the teleporter and ended up on the porch in his reach but that was the only casualty.

A bit more follow up...consider that your goals in a PvP possible area are to keep other players out of melee or spell range, and to keep stealthers from following you inside a public house.

There are many design methods that will accomplish the former. For the latter, I recommend only using a teleporter to enter the main part of your public house, with a door that you can open to let others in as needed. For one of my houses I had a "holding area" inside the door. I would open the door and let someone in the holding area, then close the door after them. Then I would take my special teleporter inside, run detect hidden to make sure no one had followed my guest in the holding area, and then open the 2nd set of doors from the holding area to the house proper.

Very cool idea even without the security benefit. Very regal!

PK proof or not, I love the design. I'm about due for a new house design. I may just steal this. :D

Thank you! I think that is one of my best designs. It was a labor of love for a very nice community minded lady who plays on Siege, and she gave me complete creative control. I had a lot of fun making it, and I was happy that I came up with a safe, pretty design that was still light on lockdowns (she runs a busy vendor mall on the plot next door and needed much storage). :)

Here is the interior in case you were curious. Besides the 50 or so plants I used in the whole design, the fireplace was my main indulgence in deco lockdowns, but still wasn't too crazy. :D

I was curious, thanks for posting the pics. Now I just have to figure out how to modify it to work for me. Since I learned how to build them, my houses MUST have stone counters in the kitchen. The wash basin upstairs is a nice touch. I am going to seriously have to consider rebuilding my house.

The good news is, with the basic 2 boxes forming a right angle for the house structure, the stone counters should work great for you up against the walls on either or both floors. You can also turn the house to better suit your plot placement especially if you do not have an 18X18.

If you do build it...please show us! :)
