Physical resist problem

On my mage characater, my physical resist is stuck at 40. When I remove all my armor, rings, etc, all resists plummet to 40 minimum.

Why can't I hit 70 resist? I checked Magic Reflection and Protection and they are both off...

1. Add up the physical resists on your armor; see if they are above or below 40 total

2. Put on a set of normal armor with known resists of 50+ in each category. make sure that the non-physical resists are correct. You might have both reactive armor AND magic reflect cast, in which case when you THINK you are casting reflect on, you are actually taking it off. The two skills combined result in a net +5 to each of the elemental resists, and a -10 to 0 change in pysical resist (-10, +2 for each 20 points of inscription, up to 0 at GM inscription)

3. If the numbers are right (real values, except for physical), see if reactive armor raises Physical like it should (and drops each elemental by 5), or whether you are still stuck at 40 Physical.

4. If there is no change after all this, call a GM for help. I've thought of about everything I can.

Try here ... Reactive Armor can also mess up resists.

I would recheck Protection (Arch Protect?) and Reflect statuses again by recasting naked and seeing if your resists change. Listen to the tone as you cast it ... it rises when toggled on, lowers when toggled off. Naked, your 40 in all resists is correct for the Resisting Spells level you have.

Not sure if the 40 for the skill overrides the other mods - why I suggested going with a 50s suit so the changes would be apparent either way.

Given a nekkid character, if all resists are 40, then GM Resist is active with no other spells. Depending on what's high or low, that's the spell on the character.

IMO, going naked to test/try this is best as you are not impacted in any way by anything and alterations of the base resist is quite evident, even at zero in all (no Resist skill).

Ummm, po-tayto vs po-tah-to? hehehe

Ok, I put a bag of regs in my backpack, took off all armor, rings, etc and I do in fact have 40 of each resist. This makes sense since I have GM Resist, as T'Amon said.

However, when I added the armor back to my character, only the elemental resists increase while physical remained at 40! This is not good since my various armor pieces increase my physical resist for 30 more points!

Then I read the link from T'Amon and it says:

"These resistances are not cumulative with armor resistances. If you wear an armor that has 30 in all resistances, and you have 40 points in all resistances because of your Resisting Spells skill, then your final resistances will be 40 (and not 70)."

I'm really confused still why my physical resist isn't budging...
