So, I have 2 fire steeds, and took them out today, since they just bonded, and found out that they suck....

I did some calculations to find out about the abilities of some 2 slot pets.

With pack instincts, the fully trained fire steed can do around 80 average damage a shot + fire ball, which was doing about 40 damage on the sphynx.
requires over 100 taming

So i looked at drakes, who have better resists, and more hp than a fire steed.
140 max stamina, for SSI, and average of 60 damage max when fully trained
eighty something taming

Then you have Bake Kitsunes >.>
70 average damage when fully trained, plus spellcasting, plus, more hp and resists than either of the other 2 pets
eighty something to tame

For the skill level to tame, and the controll slots used, either bake kitsunes are too powerfull, or both fire steeds and drakes are too weak.

comparing firesteeds to nightmares, which are lower taming, and way more powerfull, perhaps even more dps when you consider the doulbe spellcasting.. im going to say fire steeds are too weak.

drakes probly need a buff too,

Please buff drakes and fire steeds =]

Well, if they just bonded, you probably should work their skills up before tackling tougher stuff like Sphynx, Oni etc. I mean seriously, start with Ettins/Trolls and work them up. Maybe hit a shadow ele for a while. You can't expect fresh tamed/bonded pets to do much agains the sphynx. With that said, it's tough to get around a good pair of bakes, as they are the most powerful two slot pet in the game currently.

Exactly Aibal. You need to train a pet before you let it near Oni or Sphinx. Look at the skills they start with, find an *appropriate level* mob to train them on and once you're done look for mobs that are susceptible to fire damage first, learn what they're capable of and work up. They're not godly pets, but you need to train them to see what they can do.

Firesteeds were added more as a pet to tame to show them your leet taming (106.1 i think). They have never been strong in pvp but when they were first released very few people could tame them so it was a statement of status more than anything.

Yea i know about training pets and all that >.>

Fire steeds start with almost gm wreslte when you tame them, and have over 100 magic resist when tamed. Tactics is also almsot gm, there is very little training to do on fire steeds.

my fresh tame bake can beat a spynx

it comes down to weather or not they have enough hp and resist to live long enough for you to put down bandaids

im just sayin, that for controll slots and taming level they should be better

and they gave them pack instincts, which suggests they intended for them to be good....

Nobody is going to say the firesteed is godly powerful, but I wouldn't need to set fire steeds against oni or sphynx to know they'd never compare to a kit in that situation. Kits are powerful, they melee and cast. They have good resists and a strong mana pool. They can heal and cure themselves while you vet. You're comparing them to a melee/fire damage pet that can't heal or cure, can't cast offensively and has very different resists. Of course the steed can't touch a kitsune, nor a drake in that setup. For a start, neither can cast. That's a huge disadvantage. Only a hiryu is really capable of dishing out a stack of damage without magery, but has special moves, as do kitsune with their rage attack.

At least you can ride a steed tho, and it is "bling" for banksitting lol. But unless they got some super special move, they'll always lag behind the kitsune unless they learn to cast. Kits are just great all rounders and they give all pets a run for their money. Put it this way, I used them to farm greater dragons...

Firesteeds aren't even cool for bank sitting. They're high taming skill requirement has been shadowed by the Cu rare color chance.

Well, nobody has said they're uber, but if you happen to run a necro tamer, corpse skin + all kill on an ogre lord will lead to its swift demise, for example. I think they'd make good pets for a necro tamer :)

I take my firesteed out with my dread and it does fine working with the dread on sphynxs, however if the sphynx changes targets I need to be quick to switch heals. On the other hand a pair of Bake kitsune's are very formidable even not fully trained. I have been using them during the invasions and they can each take out a general with little or no healing by themselves. Together it is a quick fight. As for the crimsons, they get good gains even if they get killed. I tried my cu on the crimsons and he was starting to lose stats because he would die so much. Only thing about the bakes and the crimsons or any of the uber monsters is that they seem to pull back and pause for a bit everyso often, one would still be fighting the other would pop up beside me. I finally lored them when they did that, in most cases they were meditating and regaining mana. Once it was up they went back to fighting.

Only problem with bakes is training the resist spells they teleport to the magic caster if they can. Even when in a building and the caster outside. I suspect that by the time the invasions are done my bakes should be GM'd in everything but Resist spells. Any suggestions?

Drop guild and have your bakes fight each other. Between fighting each other and you casting weaken/clumsy/feeblemind on them you should be able to GM their resist without too much problem.

Fastest I have ever seen is...take 2 Discoed Kits to Kitsuni Wood and have them fight other Kits (alter the meat-shield so they both gain Resist). Did this with a Discoed Cu recently and raised his Healing from 90-GM in about 10 hrs. Disco is an animal trainer's best friend!
