Look in your stable sometimes they get stuck there when you auto stable. Was this near server down time if so it might have gotten stuck out and went wild and would be gone.

Have a good look around the area you logged out in, pets can go wild and wander off. Unless you were near a busy area or town, it's quite likely that your pup is still alive somewhere. Check your control slots as well, if you have the cu linked to a pet summoning crystal, try using that to bring him to you. You can also try re-logging.

And as Zodiac suggests, check your stables too :)

In future, the safest thing to do before you log off is to stable your pets, or be mounted on them. If you can, try to leave a few minutes after your last fight before you log off too, then you won't have to time out on a combat timer. Also, if the shard is going down for maintenace or there's any problem where it might revert, check your tamers are where they should be and all pets are ok.

You didn't say, but the other posts are assuming that your pet was bonded? If it wasn't bonded then it won't log out with you.

Your pet will log out with you even if its not bonded. If your pet is carrying items like a bluebie or packie would it wont log out.

Just out of curiousity and regarding the occasional bug where the pet doesnt log out with you.

What if its because the pet has items on it? now bear with me here. It has been said before that pets will occasionally receive drops (i.e. marties) what about the arrows/bolts that pets collect from spawn shooting at them? (tell your pet to drop after doing an oaks spawn and you will know what i am talking about) could this be tha cause for some pets not auto logging like they should?? the game sees them for what ever reason as a pack animal due to the items and does not stable them like they should? just tossing that out there.

Uthar, that would be a possible reason for it. There could be some code carried over from the pack animal autolog that says if the critter has something in its "pack" it shouldn't log out. That could certainly explain a tamer losing a pet when neither they or their pet was fighting and a server didn't drop/revert.

My other suspicion is that it involves the character or pet being under the combat timer and thus one logs out without the other. I wonder if there may be a gap in the code that doesn't make pets time out if they couldn't log out at the same time as their owner.

Unless you're sitting on it
You are right of course, but he was talking about his cu sidhe, which he wasn't mounted on at the time... that was what I was responding to but could have been more clear.

No, pets dont log out with you if they arnt bonded.

I had the same thing happen to my hiryu once. I was mounted on a horse and had the hiryu following me. It was near the server down time and I logged out without stabling the bird. Bye bye hiryu :( I had it happen with a greater drag too once, I lost connection when I was fighting things with my drag and when I logged back in it said I had 0 followers and the drag was no where to be found. It was bonded by the way. I thought I lost him, but I checked my stables and there he was!

PETS WILL LOG OUT WITH YOU AND DO NOT HAVE TO BE BONDED!!!!!!! Where are you people gettin your information from jeeeeeeez!! I have a char with zero taming skills. I just went out and tamed a chickadee (bird) and with my laptop next to me i logged in my other char and stood next to the one with the tamed chickadee. I logged out the one with the chickadee and the bird instantly logged out! God lord people, stop posting if you don't know what the hell your talkin about!

Bonding is not required I have logged out leaving a fresh tamed mare in Yamotsu mine after going after a fire beetle. I'd left it for dead, but when I logged in next day it was there beside me.
Many of the pets that are lost are lost at server maintenance time. To give an example:

At the point that the server makes it's last save you are down in the dungeon, beside your pet, vetting and all unaware - You return home and log when you see the notice, or you lose connection when the server goes off line.

Following maintenance the server is re-started at the point of the last save, all *available* mobiles are restored to where they were at that point. You were in the dungeon with your pet. Therefore the pet is restored there. You didn't log till after that point, so autostable hasn't happened yet (pardon the time paradox) However although you were there at that save point the first time around, you're not there now. You've gone to bed. So the pet is in game, all alone. If you're lucky, and know what's happened, you can return to the dungeon and find your pet close by, sometimes needing re-taming.

:) no, 'more better' isn't quite correct but only the trolls require perfect grammar in posts, there's nothing in the Stratics Rules of Conduct on the subject :)

I wonder why wenchkin didn't post the correct response to the op's question? Supposedly her knowledge is that much greater than mine, right? And i dont understand your comment about trolls and using correct grammar. Maybe you outta keep it on topic eh?
