I have found something in UO that I am really good at....... Other than Zoogies :) Taming and Training Pets up. I see alot of folks complaining about the grind and time involved in training pets 1-2-3 slots to 5 slot killers. Well RELAX I have decided to start a pet training service and train the pets to your specs. Leaving the last round of training points unused so you can scroll it or finish it however you want. You will be hard pressed to find anyone that has tamed and trained more high end top tier pets than I have in the new system. I am well over 300 pets trained up and about 200 of which are out hunting on prodo shards now with their new owners.

I have gotten fast at burning through the training and can take up to 30 1 slot pets to 5 slot in a day. So odd are once I have your pet you will get it back within 24 hours. So what is this going to cost you? 50k per slot trainied IE a 1 slot to 5 slots would be 200k. Very reasonable! I will probably also open a NM pet stall will fully trained pets (Not Scrolled) Sorry the scrolls are just too hard to come by on Siege to scroll out every pet :(

I train em Fast and I train em right!

shhhhhhhhh *looks around* They might nerf it!

Really tho, that's a nice new business venture!
Even if they NERF DPs there are a few other things that work just as well and just as easy ;) I just like the sailing and boat thing :)

I just recently returned to the game and feel like a noob all over again in the taming department. I am fascinated with this new pet training system but I was wondering if you'd share some tips with me.

I understand how the pet training system works and how to manage the gumps but the problem I am facing is that I have recently returned to the game and everything is very different from the way I left it. I am still trying to find my way around this new world we live in and am struggling with the most effective ways to train my pets. Example, should i completely train basic skills before I start the pet training process? Also, what creatures should I train a specific pet against. Obviously not all critters created equal and what one trains well against, another will die quickly to. And does the boat make a real difference or is this something I could do just as well in my own home or neighborhood?

I work a lot and do not have as much time to spends days or weeks training a specific pet, let alone an whole stable full. I play on Pacific and would greatly appreciate any tips you're willing to offer =)

The boat makes a huge difference there is nothing I have found that gives as many gains as fast, with less risk. The drawback is it is a bit on the expensive side to get set up. High Seas Expansion, the cost of a ship, the cannons, powder charges, fuse cords and ammo. And then learning how to operate the ship and scuttle the pirates while not getting your own boat scuttled. If you do it the cheapest ship that you can operate the easiest is the Garg Ship and don't waste your time with light cannons.

There are other things to beat on that give reasonable gain. Vorpal Bunnies amazingly enough are decent and zero risk. A lot of people swear by LvL 5 shame and the crazy mages, for gaining. Most things you train on will give only "Slight Gains" and take quite a while to go from one slot to the next.

NO DO NOT TRAIN SKILLS UP until the basic pet training is complete or atleast in its last training round. I have found this to be a major factor in pet jumping training slots IE Going straight from 3 to 5. If you GM skills and the pet has good resist, HP, and STR odd are high you will only get one training round after you buff the pet in its first training round. I believe they are working on a fix for this, but most of my trained pre pub pets went straight from 3 to 5 slot on their first training round. Pet I trained up to GM or greater before starting pet training often jumped straight to 5 slot. The slots are calculated by the pets overall power taking Stats, Skills, and abilities into the equation By fully training skills I believe it sets the pet over the threshold. So train up to 5 slot and then worry about skilling.

Time Nothing is faster than the pirates 35-45 min 1-2 slot 60-90 minutes 2-3 slot 30-45 min 3-4 slot and 45 min 4-5 slot are the average times I have tracked. A hour getting the wrestle and tactic to 70-75 with ettins, earth els or whatever and then 60-120 minutes beating on a shadow iron el to GM or Legendary skills . Then off to the Yew Sheep for a hour or so of letting sheep beat on your pet to take parry to 100 up to 120. And in less than a day your pet is Fully trained and battle ready.

oh wow, thanks for those details!

After I posted here this morning, I ran around looking for things to beat on. I just remembered how way back in the day, mobs of us would go bang on rotting corpses so i wondered if that would work on my mare as a training dummy. Needless to say, I discovered real fast that the old rotting corpse room in the bottom of covetous is very different. There were earth, fire, water and venom elementals down there. I thought "no problem, kill them and make my way to the back". WRONG! These things were super ele's!

My mare died and i was able to escape with a fragment of life, rez'ed the old mare, precast invis and went back at it. This time I was able to isolate an earth ele and omg, my mare got AMAZING gains. I went from arount 23%-87% in 15 minutes max! However, there is still a degree of risk involved and depending on the spawn, may be next to impossible at times.

I will definitely invest in some ships and give them a go! Thanks so much for informing me =)

I am going to cover this here one more time and just start referring folks to this thread instead of repeating this over and over :)

Dread Pirate Pet training

1-2 slot 100% + 50% from one pirate if you pull the pet off right when it hits 100% 1-2 slot is .70 per gain 2-3 Slot 100% or 100% + 25% if you carried 50% forward from 1-2 slot training 2-3 slot is also .70 per gain and it is the slowest training round. 3-4 slot Gains are 2.5% and cap at 50% If you carried over 25% from 2-3 slot training you will be at 75% on pirate #3. No way around doing 2 pirates for 3-4 slot. At 4-5 slot the gains drop to 1.25% and a 25% cap per pirate and it takes 4 pirates. If I am just training 2-3 pets and not power training gating different pets in and out for their % training it takes around 2.5 hours total on average to go from 1 slot to 5 slot. another 1-2 hours on the shadow el and an hour or so with sheep to finish off parry. Resisting spells I have found a way to get maxed but requires some special pets and a house specially built solely for that purpose. On Prodo Shards you can train parry and resisting up at the same time with the spectral spell binders. Power training I can train up to 15-30 pets in a day to 5 slot depending on the pet, its power and how many slots it starts as. But that involves gating the pets on and off the ship and rotating the pets on and off the pirates until they are beat down to their panties and their bow is only a few durbility from breaking. Do not break the DPs BOW and NEver Ever NEVER NEVER EVER disarm the DP or use a pet with active Disarm on the DP YOU WILL DIE, EVERY PET ON THE BOAT WILL DIE.

To be fair my method is geared heavily toward power training and getting the most experience on as many pets from one pirate as possible. I just happen to employ the DP tactic in training my own pets 1 or two at a time as it is also very profitable. If you run a high luck suit about 1 in 3 DPs drops a good Legendary and the always have a pack full of high end majors.

That sells me! I have 1103 on my luck suit now and can still get additional luck in Brittain for a few hours. Hopefully will be getting a nice imbued armor set soon that brings my luck up even higher.

I run a 1560 suit + whatever the statue hands out for far too short of a time :)

I used to be a queen of farm Underworld for lucky coins - and it can give a large luck buff randomly. It can also give 2 buffs per 1 toss (toss 2 at once) - and if both are luck, you're in good.

On a side note, why would you die if DP loses his weapon?

Same as disarming medusa they turn into super powered killing machines and you can barely scratch them.
