Can someone point me to a reliable source that shows the % chance of finding naturally occuring valorite? Seriously,I believe that the Devs have secretly removed valorite from the game and that it's existance is merely myth. /rant

It's there but it's really rare... I've taken to using both a prospector's tool, and a Gargoyles Pickaxe together to bump Agapite and Verite Veins both to Valorite in order to keep some on hand.

Last week, I logged onto my miner/LJ on Oceania after not playing her for quite a long time and was able to mine valorite at three locations in Malas that I marked runes for on November 20th. Just checked now and those three locations still yielded valorite today, my first return trip since last week. Only 31 ingots total today, after smelting the ore two at a time, but I guess better than nothing.
Edited to add: That particular miner wasn't wearing mining gloves and is human.

I believe the numbers were altered slightly over the years.
The original system was
x = 1.4% give or take.
Valorite chance was x
Verite chance is 2x
Agapite chance is 3x
Gold chance is 4x
Bronze chance is 5x
Copper chance is 6x
Shadow Iron chance is 7x
Dull Copper chance is 8x
Iron is what's left over after (100%-36x)
Depending on what the true value of X is, this could be Iron occuring
a. 50% of the time (1.4% being 50%/36, rounded up for the charts)
b. 49.6% of the time (1.4% actually being 1.4%)
c. 49.1% of the time (1.4% being 1% times the Square Root of 2, rounded down for the charts)
Now, sometime about 4 or more years ago, the chance of Valorite was supposed to be increased from 1.4% to 2% (this might be found in one of the old publish notes), without the other numbers actually changing, which would change the numbers for Iron above to
a1. 49.4% of the time (if the increase came from the 50% that was iron)
a2. 50% (where the increase may have come from lowering DC slightly, instead of changing the Iron side of the equation)
b. 49%
or
c. 48.5% (roughly)
It's hard to tell from testing if the planned increase from 1.4% to 2% actually occurred. After all, the much larger increase in Frostwood spawn rate still is too hard to actually see real results of that change.
Note that if you use Prospector's Tools without garg picks (or Garg picks without the tools), the chance of mining valorite becomes 3x (as Verite veins become valorite), or 4.2% (4.8% if the increase to 2% Valorite was actually implemented). If you use BOTH the Prospector Tool and Gargoyle Pickaxe, the chance becomes 8.4% (9% if Valorite was raised to 2%), with MORE valorite in 25-ore stacks potentially coming from Valorite elementals.
I typically go out with 1 prospector tool, 8 garg picks and a sturdy shovel (about 1000-1200 digs, depending on the base GPA values ranging from 101-125), and come back with 50-200 valorite ingots (depending on how badly the RNG screws me when I smelt); more if I actually get elementals to pop, and this is with a human that mines only on trammel ruleset facets. A few times, I've come back with 300-400. So, these numbers would almost double in Fel (the ore on the eles isn't doubled, and in Fel the extra 1-3 swings an elf might get over a comparable human would overwhelm the human 10% chance per swing of an extra ore)
If you put mining on a character with 100-120 melee skill, a 60s-70 resist suit, and a slayer weapon with high life leech (can be a slow or fast one), you should be able to kill non-paragon Valorite elementals fairly easily, provided you don't dig up a second while fighting the first.
A miner that complains about getting too little Valorite that doesn't use AT LEAST the PT, is about as relevant as a person screaming about bad armor resists, that only wears normal armor looted from orcs as a form of Roleplay (as opposed to making high-resist ringmail with runics and imbuing to still look the part).

I have been finding a lot of valorite while mining in the underworld and the abyss on Atlantic. The area in the underworld by the circular stair to the abyss usually has 2 spots in it.
Rare ore is rare. Maybe in another 10 years the ingot price will match the rarity when the surplus runs out.
Being rare is one thing,but making it to where it is basiclly unattainable outside of forcing verite/agapite to be valorite is another.

I don't seem to have a problem finding it.
Every time my miner goes out I find some.
Stop Mining in the fuzzy safe places like around the Brit fields or any other really safe areas. There is a better chance finding val in the dirt mounds around Cove Graveyard then the mountains of Brit Farms.
Back in the good old days Prince sang "Lets Party Like It's 1999" pets didn't bond. With no firebeetle honest miners went about with packy and enough skill to gate, or recall mined till loaded.
On the silver platter and up to date. SoulStone Mining from that tired old mage template to a dexer template. Find one those extreemly rare Earth Eli slayer weapons that imbuossible to make in the current UO days. Same sarcasm for how hard it is to make a fighter luck suit or buff those mining gloves.
Get a load of gargoyle pickaxes be it from BODs or that sweet little Stone Gargoyle spawn area in the Ish desert. Handful of the Prospector tools.
Follow along the mountain south out of Ish humility gate till see little village of the Lizard Men. Center of the village is a rock formation with a cave enterance. It is a short run of tunnel that you don't want to exit the other end. Mine down one side then back on the other and repete. 4-5 val locations each lap with a chance to spawn one those 25ore valorite elementals. Considered a dungeon area Niter can also be mined there. Don't forget to look hard on those rare ore eli corpses for the sneaky CBR.
And if a Paragon Valorite Eli spawns it is a short run out the tunnel. As a clue Sampires would be on the boards crying it is unfair if ParaValEli was used in an event. Why I prize the three chest I've earned in all theese years and 1000s of broken GoylPicks.
Mushroom cave out Spirit gate on the way to Swoop same deal. Just one side the cave you can Dungeon fist and lobster trap while mining. Same ammount of val location spread over little larger area.
Before the GDs made the Destard area unfun for all but tamers. That raised area dirt just as you step into Destard has three val locations within few steps of the enterance. 7 val spots within a screen of the enterance. And of course while only using the goyl pick pro hammer combo. Fire Beetle is your friend. Any mining without the basic three is just some recall script mining hack.
LS held a mining event in the EM tunnels. I was the only combat miner there and the rest well 1999. Basic ore was carried to center collection area with no beetle or packy help. Points tallied the higher up the ore chart. Ya I won and my point total was never given. Only thing said about my score was if just my val was only counted I still would of won the event. Think my total was around the other miners combined total.
Can't say more about how to get val other then the Boomstick is not part of a miners template in this age of UO.
And if LS wants to hold another mining event. I promise to bring my weak elf with magery and other crafting skills. Boo Ha Ha (side note: she mines with goyle picks and a looted channeling bow. Even though she could make her own GMed arms lored crafted Legendary items from the ingots and the cow's hide that wandered to close.)

I have mined that cave a number of times and have never found any Val spots or saltpeter. I run a 1907 luck suit and have no prob. finding saltpeter in dungons or on boats. Good spot to mine with an Elf if you want a lot of jewels and ingots or Human for ingots.
