Has anyone purchased this from the code store yet? Do you have to have the "Source" Runebook in your backpack to copy it or can you target a runebook that is locked down like at a rune library?

Wow, I hope you can't target a runebook that isn't yours... That would cheapen the work of every rune library author if their hard work could be 'stolen' so easily.

But, chances are you won't be able to copy a 'locked down resource' same as books.

Because its so hard to get 21 runes, a rune book, and just recall off of a rune libraries runes and mark your own, creating your own runebook right?

Would probably take me an entire 15 mins to fill a 20 rune runebook. rolleyes:

I fail to see how using a rune library is "stealing" to begin with. Rune libraries aren't businesses. Most are put there SO players can "steal" the "hard work" and get to places quicker. And I doubt most people who use rune libraries are thankful for them.

Whether you realize it or not, keeping up a good rune library is a lot of work. No owner that I know objects to people copying a few books for personal use. Copying the entire thing to open up your own rune library is stealing someone else's hard work.

Library etiquette (this is something library owners do amongst themselves) would have someone first ask if its okay to copy the work and then give credit to the original set owner who built the set.

If this pen allowed you to copy runebooks that are locked down under any circumstances, I would probably give up and shut down Goodman's Rune Library. Goodman realized there was no stopping the copiers so sometimes he even helped them but it always made him sad that people wouldn't support him. I can't tell you how many people I get who think it's okay to steal all the work we've done.

I've been working on keeping Goodman's memory and library alive for 5 years and all the while trying to support community endeavors of my shard. Rune Libraries are almost always held by people who want to support their communities. All they ask in return is some support and some respect.

Could do my way, found a rune library that went IDOC, while people were looting goodies I looted the books.... At least this way they weren't lost.

When I tried it on test center I think it said it has to be your house or be a co-owner of the target runebooks house.

Mapper, is it right.
If copy a runebok would be so easy every players go to a library house to copy the books. Do you think that i make many runebooks only to make them copying by everyone???
A little kiss :)

I don't agree with copying entire libraries to open your own, but in reality how would you tell if someone copied your library or not? I personally have my own mini library of places where people have gated me and I thought useful and marked a rune there.

For other things, like treasure maps spots, I merely use a t-map rune library because I don't do them that often.

Although I don't support people copying peoples rune libraries, for the majority of places of interest like shrines, spawn areas, peerless, and towns how would you actually know if someone copied your work? It would be impossible. The only way you could even begin to assume someone had actually copied your library is if they put up a library of their own with runes marked in the exact locations as your own.

Where rune libraries may be "hard" to maintain (hard is in quotes because I don't personally feel its hard, but I will believe its time consuming) it is a free service that people who own libraries volunteer to do.

BUT - I agree the pen shouldn't allow you to copy others rune books that are locked down in a library.

I tried it on Test Center, and you have to be coowned or owning the house to be able to copy a locked down book.

Now what i would like to know , are they rechargable?

To the runelibraries....
Basic Runebooks will allways be kind of alike, but back when i started on Atlantic , we had several big runelibraries , besideds Goodmans (most of them have since dissapeared) and the funnest part was that each one was diffrent, had their own unique Runes or Sets.

If one rune was blocked i could recall of the other Guys T Map set. I wanted to recal directly into the Blood Elle Room in Shame , but didnt know what lvl or where to go? NP... One Library had it marked by locations ...another by spawn...

Nowadays it seems if someone wants a Runelibrary its , lets go to ..... and copy it
Even worse is books get copied and sold as entire sets on Vendors...

Yes its not necessary "hard" work, but if you do it right its: a) time consuming
and b)sometimes kind of suicidal (Andra will agree with me here, since i usually send her through the Deathgates to mark...she curses so beautifully over skype)

It just would be nice to see diffrent kind of Libraries (talking about my shard here) instead of several copies of the same...

The Pen of Wisdom is annoying, all it does is save a short step, it shouldn't require mark scrolls or runes, then you might as well recall around and mark yourself, with LRC, then its free, buying mark scrolls is not.

I believe it's probably meant for people who sell marked rune books, like town or dungeon books.

Sometimes it's not about making gold, but providing a service. It may be worth it to the person marking the books to save himself the time it takes and use it for something else?

When we hosted community festivals on LS I marked 15-20 rune books for helpers to recall around or gate others as necessary. I definitely would have put a Pen of Wisdom to good use *wipes brow*

I've found it nice for copying books full of dangerous locations. You know the ones, you gate in, get swarmed, die 30 times before you can actually mark a rune and then get out. I can survive those spots with my Sammie or maybe another character, but not my scribe/mage.

Off topic slightly, But the amount of people I saw marking these type of books during the Halloween event was hilarious, In monster form it was pritty safe! :D
