PBDs - with Name Change?

I never actually paid my PBDs any attention, but am curious what happens to them if you use a Name Change.

Does it still say the Old name or update to the new one?
What if its on an item at the time?

It updates to the new one - though I made sure to have mine off the weapon when I used mine.

From what I understand, the PBD is linked to the character by the numeric ID assigned to each character as it is created, and the name displayed is looked up by that numeric ID to display on the weapon, and is not actually tied to the deed directly.
