Patchurday for Bitter Black (now version 2.5)...

Dermott of LS

Changes:

1. Added Commas to vendor prices as well as made the vendor price a gold color text string to help it stand out more. (I had done this as a walkthrough initially, but now is part of the package download since the KR forum went away)

2. Fixed a number truncation due to the addition of commas in checks with Pub 52. If you see any others that need work, please inform me.

3. Added in (I hope as I was unable to test) commas and red text format to new Vendor Penalty line.

#3 tested and working in 2.5a
The UI package can be found at UO Skins at the bottom of the list as Bitter Black 2.5a

Nok, just an aside, I've just been updating the Bitter Black UI. The original author is B-LAU for the base graphical UI, and a various batch of others who released smaller UI mods that I added in as well as my own tweaks.

While the news item is appreciated, I don't want to take other people's credit.

No worries. What would you suggest? It is easily changed. :)

I didn't know, I just assumed you were the author. So'kay though. :)

I just updated it with this, "Dermott of LS, a contributor to the Bitter Black skin". How's that sound?

Thanks again Fayled... found a small problem and a quick fix, now it works as intended, going to re-upload and contact the UO Skins admin to tweak appropriately

Might want to edit a blurb to say that it's 2.5a not 2.5 that is the correct version.

Not to sound all negative, but how many of you guys/gals use this program. I would like to mess with it, but i always have a problem downloading stuff because of potential hacks. Im not saying Dermott will hack, I just want public feedback.

Quite a few people use Bitter Black, the other KR skins & add-ons; and also the UOSkins.com site. But in these days when PC security is so important, you've asked a fair question... that deserves a fair answer.

One should always be cautious. Always keep your PC's security (AV/AS/WU/etc.) up to date with the latest programs and definition files; scan regularly. Now when you see something you want to download or site you want to visit... there are somethings you can do, in addition to asking the community.

Make sure you're browser is up to date. Also both Firefox and IE have security add-ons, like script blockers and anti phishing tools. One great tool is called McAfee SiteAdvisor (works in both FF & IE), scans sites for potential problems... uses gray (unchecked), red (unsafe), yellow (caution), green (safe) to let you know something about that site and what is there. It also works in Google and Yahoo! searches. You can also go to SiteAdvisor's Analysis page and put in the address of the site you're curious about and check it out without having to go to that site first.

When you download a file to your desktop, don't run or execute the file yet... right click on it first thing. On the context menu there is usually an option to Scan Selected File(s) With... insert the name of your anti virus here. Always check. Also if you want a little more verification, you can use an online scanner to check files... like Jotti's Malware Scan. Jotti's will let you upload a file to their server, where it will run it up against 21 different anti virus engines.

Those are just a few things you can do. You can get all these on your own, or they & many more are in the Safety menu of every GameXbar (like the UO Toolbar). Don't hurt to ask, and always check things out for yourself.

Hope that helps.

The question on security is a fair question.

I can personally vouch for the safety of any of the Bitter Black UIs as well as all of the UIs on the UO Skins site as I have tried them all.

Bitter Black was originally created by B-LAU and is still posted on the UO skins site. I added in several other small UI additions as well and have been using the mod for a few months now.

By all means, run the files through whatever scans you feel necessary.

Safety is a good thing.
