Party system question

I know when in a party you share fame and karma among the party members. What about loot when you defeat a renowned/peerless/mini-boss? I've heard about people breaking party before killing the boss and am wondering if that is to increase the amount of loot each person sees. When in a party, does everyone in a party see the same items on the corpse? Is that it?

Thanks for the help.

When people are partied, they share the same boss corpse.

If unpartied, they each get their own corpse, and some additional items are added to make each corpse have an equal number of mundane loot items.

Artifact drops go on the point system for each player, so each person has their own chance of a drop. Partying (since it reduces fame) can reduce the points one gets for a specific kill, but it remains possible for two or more people to get a drop at the same time.

If two or more people get a drop together, the drops will be the same. This is true for minors and major artifacts.

Breaking party also helps get more of the people involved some credit on the kill, based on when the party is dissolved (the closer to the kill, the better). It also keeps people from arguing over who was supposed to get the crimson, etc.

Thanks a lot for the explanation, Basara. Now I understand why we rolled dice after the first Friday night surprise hunt to the Shimmering Effusion!

I realize there's no hard and fast rule, but for parties that agree to use the disbanding strategy for loot purposes, does the party leader typically assume responsibility for disbanding the party towards the end of a boss fight, so that each member of the party doesn't have to leave it on their own?

pretty much... Typical strategy is to do it when the boss is between 50% and 20% HP left.

For example, against Melisande, you typically want to keep the party together until after the 5th satyr spawns, half-way through the fight, and the satyr's death, just to make sure no one loses health bars at the worst possible time, and to better communicate just WHO is going to kill that %#$%#$ goatboy.

Other spawns, if everyone is equally capable of inflicting enough damage for rights and there is no "surprise" spawn half-way through, you can break earlier.

The Effusion is one of the ones where it gets really dangerous. It's best to break almost as soon as you arrive, then everyone retreat to the ankh to pull healing bars back up, or keep the party going as close as you can to the death of the boss, to make healing easier and not lose bars.
