I log in every once in a while and just look around. The game has changed so much. I drifted away from UO when swords used to be VANQ instead of numbers.

Back in my day I played a lot. One character could solo L5 treasure hunts when that was a big deal. Used to treasure hunt for others for just the gold in the chest.

Had another PVP players, though I was sort of average at it. I have 3 accounts I've maintained over the years, 2 at 180 months and 1 at 164 months. Still have all 3 houses, most full of crud that was once worth something. What year was that when bells were the rage for Christmas? I have a full set, including white. No idea what I'm supposed to do with all these christmas gifts.

I've only claimed a handful of vet rewards. I think I have over 20 to choose just on one account.

Trouble is, once I log in, I don't know what makes any sense to do part time. The armor and weapons and jewelry are complicated compared to VANQ. I have a crafter, but don't have all these kits and materials. I have like 20,000 valorite ingots but no idea what do do with them anymore. I have like 400 old treasure maps, but soloing them is out of the question now. I think if I used my tamer, the pets are weak. Does anybody use white wyrms anymore?

If you were an old returning vet, what would you do with a boatload of old christmas and valentine gifts, and what sort of activity would make sens if you planned on playing only couple of hours each month?

I would say take the time to re-learn it all. it will take a little time but not too long, then you can decide what to do. if you have Taming, I would get a 120 scroll for the skills if you haven't already. after that I would get a suit together that's all 70's (or close to it) and has lower reagent cost, lower mana cost, + intelligence, and anything else that would help a Tamer with Magery . After all that, go get a Greater Dragon and Train it up (after it's Bonded) then just roll around and see what you can kill, have fun with it. as far as the Christmas/Valentines stuff, sell it, trade it, or display it. go to the rares forum and see what it's worth.

One option for getting back in the swing of things is the Clean up rewards. With boat loads of old gifts you can turn them in for points and get a sorcerers suit and maybe even a set of jewels, not the best around but for a mage or mage/tamer it gives 100% lower regent cost (no need to carry regs) and all 70s resists, enough to get out and hunt. Make sure you insure the suit so you don't lose it. Rare rewards like white bells and statues, angel/surfer statues and some snowglobes are worth keeping rather than turning in for points.
A well trained white wyrm is weak compared to a greater dragon or cu sidhe but might be enough to solo lvl 5 treasure maps still. If you do treasure maps make sure you use a luck statue to improve the loot, the bonus is based on account age so you'll get a nice bump on an older account. If you walk around luna you can find someone with a luck statue (10th anniversary statue) locked down for public use, it lasts an hour after you click it.

Looks like my tamer has a 120 scroll already applied, and I'm up to 110 taming and 110 lore. I have a Greater Dragon bonded that I bought a few years back. I have 60 or so 14 year vet rewards (I horded them, always wanting *next* years reward), so it sounds like a luck statue might be worthwhile).

When you say "get a suit together tha's all 70's", I'm not sure how I'd do that. My tamer's luck suit is about 1200, but the resists are in the 15's. Do I just buy one? I wasn't a rich player.

How do you tell the worth of the christmas stuff? There used to be Tradespot or something where at least you could get an idea of the worth.

How do I tell how many of these gift points I have? Seems like I started that once, but I don't remember which character I was using.

go to Britain and find a "Cleanup Officer" and double click them and it should give you a gump with points and rewards. there is a suit on there called a sorcerer's suit. it is a good beginners all 70's resist suit. it cost 60k cleanup points. there is a Trades forum here that you can check for values on items.

buy a suit, and a couple of the luck talismans to sell for gold if you need it.

So you drifted away from UO but continued to pay for the accounts ? Inactive accounts don't age which means they also don't gain vet reward choices. You must have had 60 choices before you drifted away, or a whole lot of gametime codes used :p

Yeah, I continued to pay for the accounts. Now I have 3 houses, 18 characters, and (21+19+17) 57 unused 14 year vet rewards. My players each have ethereal horses, a few from vet rewards, the rest purchased because I wanted to save the vet rewards for later. How much later, I suppose I'm still waiting. I might get the teleporters this year. Maybe not.

Well, you have plenty of rewards/gifts/etc. that you can turn into gold on a vendor... Then just look to buy whatever you need to do whatever you decide to do - for a couple of hours each month.....
What you're going to do in a couple of hours each month, I have no idea...

Thank you Dizzy, for supporting for the best online game ever invented for three years straight although you did not actually play it.

:)

Although the dev team seems to have gotten smaller over the years, the game play has gotten larger.

As a solo player, I sometimes am dizzied by the choice of game play options available to me when I log onto one of my eight UO accounts.

I love all except maybe pvp, I can't kill a fly, and group play, since I don't play well with others.

For the moment, I resist my urge to do some peaceful mining of ore and large gems and crystalline blackrock. I resist the urge to fill tailor or smith bods for their rewards that I can either use or sell for gold. I resist the urge to hunt for and sit at idocs\sort my houses\level alt skills\stock vendors\grow plants in my 40+ raised garden beds\do city trade quests\do EM events\learn to solo Melisande\cycle reagent vendors/jewelers in order to buy and sell bulk reagents/jewels...the list goes on and on.

I resist because I am determined to collect 100 Minax artifacts and get myself my first luck plain dress.

:)

The moral of this, my UO story, is plain and simple...

So much to do in UO, so little time!

I still have chests of invisibility items. I had planned to hold them for years until they were worth something. Are they worth anything yet? :)

I've discovered another drawback. Old age. I cashed in a reward last night - house teleporters. Always wanted one, the other house is far away.

Only to discover I must have already done, probably 2 years ago. Even installed them in the exact spot I had in mind. :)
