Certain creatures have certain areas that are better to tame in. A greater dragon is the easiest tame in my opinion, because you have a perfect spot to farm them and lots of room to tame them. Go down to wind (you have magery so you can get in ) drag all the crap (deamons/drakes etc) into the tunnels to the east of where the greater spawns, invis or hide just get it all into that eastern most tunnel. Go back to the main room and it's just you and that dragon. IF you find a good one you just need a dragon slayer book, do some damage to the dragon until he is about to fly around. At this point the dragon isn't blowing 60 point fireballs, he isn't moving fast and you all that area to walk around and tame him. Since it's a narrow tunnel area you can drop an energy field to stop his pursuit and get his life down with even less risk. When it comes time to tame however you must have a clear view of sight. IF you get a crappy dragon you drag him to the steps of wind city and yell scream and plead for the guards and they kill it for you. Using this method I have been able to tame greaters on differnt servers, differnt templates and with differnt suits. Well obviously all mages as that is the requirement for wind. My latest tame was a 3.9 on the pet calculator, using a necro tamer mage with no mage weapon or wrestle.. similar to the situation you were asking about with wanting to put parry or DCI onto your tamer.
I just realized you don't have eval intel, so yah honor tame is the best bet for you and/or peacing. I prefer to beat the pets down making them slower, and less nasty before I attempt a tame, so I run all my tamer mages with eval. Perhaps you have a mage friend you could bring along with you to do the damage for you? The idea is to almost kill the pet then tame it.
At any rate good luck with it, if you play chessy or atl and want a hand I would be more then happy to help yah out.
