Hey everyone was wondering with the current publish...if having 45 DCI and 60-70 parry would make a difference, while equppited with a shield and spellbook?

Thanks in Advance

AS apposed to when? 60-70 parry probably wont matter to much, even less so if you have under 80 Dex (this includes being cursed). Also is this a PvM question? Because if not 45dci is rarely ever the minimum suggest amount in a PvP situation.

Hope that helps a little, but with more over all information the better equipped we are to help you. :)

Thanks for the Reply Dagger,
My Current Temp is a Bard Tamer...
I'm trying some different things regarding and safer taming scenario, hence the 45dci and parry with a shield...
so primarily...taming

I am cuurently at 125 Str, 105 Dex and 30 Int, all 70's meddable suit, elf and 720 skill cap
120 Lore
120 Tame
120 Vet
120 Music
120 Peace (100 Hide stoned)
88.7 Magery

Cheers,

I would suggest raising the magery a bit with items maybe, and equipping a 0 mage wep. 100(or 120!) wep skill would far exceed the defense of a 0 skill with 45 dci.

That is just during the taming process I am guessing but alternatively you can simply attempt the tame if angered area peace. Repeat till you start taming the beast and precast invisi until argo. It takes longer but it is very safe.

The down side to using a mage weapon, is that you will hit the creature more often, since your attack is now higher (100 (or 120) vs 0, using the above example). If you deal damage (hit) your tame, it will break the attempt. 5% Luck is correct that you will defend much better, but there is a draw back to consider when taming. You can plug your modified magery value into UO Stratics - Combat to see the difference.

I agree with adding mage weapon to get better defense. Are you actually target peacing creatures? If not there is no reason to have peacing or music at 120, you can easily do with 100 in both to area peace, if you are target peacing then leave it as is, but I would still look for ways to up magery.

Second thought, looking at your template again you can easily get 120 magery (6x120) and keep your current skills. Parry would be minimally useful at a low level, the mage weapon and 120 magery would actually be better than parry at 120 (although a -20 one handed mage weapon and 60 parry with a shield might be better, I am not 100% sure though as I did not do the math, and it is only possible if you drop music/peace 20 points and add +skill equipment.)

Hope that helps more.

I slightly disagree. Consider the bard masteries which can help you in some situations.

Read about them here:
Bard Mastery
My experience tells me the maximum numbers shown there - at least for the provocation songs Inspire and Invigorate - are outdated.
Newer numbers can possibly acquired here:

I know about the bard masteries, but from what I have gathered from his post, and others is how I made my suggestion. He asked for taming, and to tame you do not need 120/120 peace/music since the bard mastery skills will not help you to tame any better really. Even when fighting as a tamer (consider I have a peace tamer) The bard masteries are not substantial enough gain for that character for me to advice 120/120. Not saying they are useless (I use both the Disco and provo masteries quite often) But in reply to his posts I would say lowering those skills to gain more defense would be acceptable (since his question was about having better defense taming.)

With spell book equipped you will use wrestling or defensive wrestling to avoid being hit. DCI will not help you significantly with the above template.

wrestling 0
defensive wrestling 20 ((0+0)/2) +20

so w 45 dci

20 + 20* .45 = 29 defensive wrestling

that's a lot of mods for 9 defensive wrestling.

parry might be a little more viable that it appears, 70 would get you about a 20% block chance and you will be attempting to parry basically every hit (sense they will basically never miss due to your low wep skill)

parrry is still not a good idea imo, area peace or honor tame.

Thank You all, so much for your input....it is quite valuable. One question though, what is honor taming?
Thanks

With honor taming you can basically go where you want, tame the pet you like more and gate out with zero problems.

To use it you have to raise your honor virtue.

To raise the honor virtue you honor mobs before to kill them (click on the honor virtue icon then target the mob).

When you have at least one path in honor you can honor yourself becoming "immune" to monster's aggressions for a short period of time. The immunity stands even for monster's anger (namely the greater dragon's anger 'cause it is the only pet worth wasting those hardly earned virtue points).

It is like the ethereal voyage spellweaving spell but it lasts more.

Being a tamer you gain less honor when fighting monsters (and i won't start a rant about it here) so you have to fight bigger foes.

Imho the better creatures to hunt for are Trasher (blighted glove) or the good old ancient wyrm - in the ilshenar dragon's lair.

Certain creatures have certain areas that are better to tame in. A greater dragon is the easiest tame in my opinion, because you have a perfect spot to farm them and lots of room to tame them. Go down to wind (you have magery so you can get in ) drag all the crap (deamons/drakes etc) into the tunnels to the east of where the greater spawns, invis or hide just get it all into that eastern most tunnel. Go back to the main room and it's just you and that dragon. IF you find a good one you just need a dragon slayer book, do some damage to the dragon until he is about to fly around. At this point the dragon isn't blowing 60 point fireballs, he isn't moving fast and you all that area to walk around and tame him. Since it's a narrow tunnel area you can drop an energy field to stop his pursuit and get his life down with even less risk. When it comes time to tame however you must have a clear view of sight. IF you get a crappy dragon you drag him to the steps of wind city and yell scream and plead for the guards and they kill it for you. Using this method I have been able to tame greaters on differnt servers, differnt templates and with differnt suits. Well obviously all mages as that is the requirement for wind. My latest tame was a 3.9 on the pet calculator, using a necro tamer mage with no mage weapon or wrestle.. similar to the situation you were asking about with wanting to put parry or DCI onto your tamer.

I just realized you don't have eval intel, so yah honor tame is the best bet for you and/or peacing. I prefer to beat the pets down making them slower, and less nasty before I attempt a tame, so I run all my tamer mages with eval. Perhaps you have a mage friend you could bring along with you to do the damage for you? The idea is to almost kill the pet then tame it.

At any rate good luck with it, if you play chessy or atl and want a hand I would be more then happy to help yah out.

pgib and icm420,

You Guys ROCK!!!!
Thank You for mthe great information, all my accounts are on Lake Austin, guess that rules out any assistance, nonetheless.....Many Thanks!!!

I am curious on which type of pets or pets combo's I should use to fight a ancient wyrm?

Well, i use a greater dragon for the ancient wyrm but i really use my gds for pretty much everything (i love 'em :D). Because the AW has no area spell and in the dragon's lair (ilshenar) it spawn all alone, you can really do it with almost any pet - with bandages and greater heal you regenerate the hp of your pet faster than the damage output of the aw. The same goes for the paragon version.

The only minor nuisance is that the aw, as most of the spellcasters, heals very very fast. And flies away. Because of the track-bug, when it starts flying your pet goes crazy and misses a lot of opportunities to hit, the aw is on the healing rampage... in the end sometime it takes more time to do the last 1% damage than the previous 99.

Anyway, her majesty is nowadays a middle end mob so it is not really a big deal getting rid of her.

In my opinion the Necro Tamer is the best to hunt AW's:

Nothing like a GD and 2 Skelle Drags to drop an AW fast :D

to TAME pets dont worry about any defensive stuff just use HONOR

As you learned a bit HONOR TAMING is the easiest way to tame agro pets. At Knight of honor you have approx 5 minutes of time to tame a pet before it can actually become angry.

To gain honor I personally go to Balarons in Fel (there are a few places were one spawns in a small enough room) and just honor the ballie then sick a greater drag on it. Since Ballies dont have any area effect spells they are the easiest to take on with a tamer. There are many who say Sucubi, and a Cu. It works but MANY MANY tests by myself and Ballies in fell are the fastest. It will still take 12 - 15 ballies to gain one dot of honor when you are on your last 6 dots.

All other methods of taming are more difficult and more complicated.

now while fighting i would swap out peace for disco and then you draggie will hae no problem taking on ANY critter.

If you are a trammie thru and thru then you can kill any of the high end monster to gain honor, but the balies in the sprituality dungeon are nice and have the chance at paragons and niceer loot from them are a bonus.

Killing Aw with a GD and Disco are a piece of cake, just drag the other junk out of the way and you will roll thru them quickly.
