Parking in Doom

All of this SA hunting has me wishing the new drops had a Doom like point system... and then I came to the realization that maybe it is time I got back into Doom itself! So I would like to permanently camp a character in there (probably a bard/archer or necro/mage/bard of some sort) and log him out in the hidden store. For those of you that do this too, or have in the past, what strategies did you employ for the initial supply and then maintenance for the char? How did you hold excess items or do repairs?

I read up on the method to get gold into your bank box by selling back items (like scrolls picked up off corpses). I suppose metal items are out without a forge/anvil for repairs. I could park a second char who is a tailor/tinker/fletcher/carpenter in there for repairs. Someone told me to use a blue beetle and then park it while fighting. That would eat up summons slots for a mage, but would probably work for an archer. I could just use an ethereal mount to get around. What other tips do you have?

Thanks!

You can try parking all you want but you will have to leave eventually. I am talking from my experience and it has been a while since i have played but i remember having to leave at least once a week.

i guess a 100 lrc suit with around 3-5 self repair on each part and a hole bunch of replenish instruments would make it possible to be in doom a very long time . lots of gold in bank if you use a archer .

I used to be parked there aswell with my warrior...

I did use a beetle aswell to carry my spare bandies and arrows..and carry the gold i occasionaly picked up.

Eventualy you'll be forced to return home to repair your suit/weapons.

2 chars. Like stated, get a 100% LRC with Self Repair on it. 2nd char (could be a newbie trial account) on a blue bug parked in the store. In its bug:

Translocation powder, aids (if needed), arrows, instruments etc. Whatever you need. A bug can hold a ton. Simply bring gold back to your 2nd char (after a loop or two), and stack it till you have 60k, then BOS it to bank, along with any arti drops. If you die, have some res scrolls in there, so 2nd char can res you/heal you.

But keep your bug fed. I had one go wild and drop lots of arrows, bolts, enhanced aids, and POF while I was running the gauntlet.

As long as your armour and weps are not metal and your human you can repair all your own stuff in there with JOAT.

Best char to take in there is one that doesnt need any resources, wears all leather or wood, human and with lots of exceptional sewing kits :)

Thunderz

EDIT** forget the wood armour part!! You'd have to be elf to wear it meaning you wont have much chance repairing it :D

EDIT** Although you could if your factiond and wear the earings that let humans wear elf armour :)

Im actually leaning towards doing this with my elf sampire as i made some awsome wood armour for him and dont need the earing slot anymore or the 30 mana, thus i could have all the benifits of being human and elf [minus the 30 mana but as a sampire i was doing fine with 50 now i have 80]

Thanks for the feedback. I'm leaning towards bringing two chars into doom. One will be my combatant. The other will be a crafter who can rez. Each will be on different accounts so I can have them both up at the same time. I'll put the blue beetle on the crafter so it isn't sitting unmounted often. Good tips on the supplies. I know I can do a weekly supply run with some friends that run the gauntlet. I can leave and re-enter with them if I have to.

I'm wondering if I can make a metal-item based character work (i.e. sampire weapons). I'd have to have enough weapons to get through the week. The rest of his suit is leather or tinkered jewelry. When I got low, I'd take the weapons home, repair, and then return with my friends.

As for bandages, are mummies enough of a source to sustain your bandage use?

Thanks again for the tips!

You can't use a BoS in Doom.

Something to note, anyone with 0 skill in Bowcraft can repair a bow as long as it has not lost more than 20% of it's total durability. You can use several Quiver of the Elements on a blue beetle stocked with arrows/bolts so you can carry much more than you would be able to without the quivers. Collect scrolls from the DF, regs from Lich Lords, and bandages from Mummy's and sell them to Nix to have gold to purchase more ammo while you're down there.

When i did doom alot i used 2 accounts.
1xfighter
1xcrafter with animal lore/vet to res my pet (swamp dragon)

My crafter would hold all my extra stuff, witch included serveral suits/weapons. Lots of barding deeds etc etc.

Thanks Connor i was going to mention the amount you have to repair at without it loosing durability but i couldnt remember the %. You could also go with wooden wepons so you can repaire them aswell.

With the elixior made from medusa blood [not hard to get or farm] you can res your pet. I use this alot if something goes wrong when doing pereless solo along with the seed? from steeling that lets you auto res :)

Also if your in doom alone you can get away with having the fighter and crafter on the same account, just drop the stuff in one of the chests while you swap chars [even safer if you have 0.1? camping i think]

You can get by just fine looting the bandages from the mummies for healing, it also helps to kill the DF slowly [if solo] so you can get as much spawn as possible to loot ;)

I don't really understand why one would want to stay in Doom for this length of time?

As soon as you get a drop, you leave to either sell it or utilize it in some other way- At least thats what most would do

A skull only costs a small amount of gold 150k-200k.

Would you want to get to a stage where your carrying around several accumulated artifacts in your backpack, or on a mule char, that cannot be utilized because they are stuck indefinitely in doom?

My intent was basically to have a guy ready to go at Doom at all times. This way I can log in, check out Doom (without wasting a skull) and see if people are there working the gauntlet. If there are I will join in. If not, I will likely logout and try again later. I fully acknowledge that the guy (or his repair/rez partner) will have to come out occasionally (probably weekly or every other week). I'm just looking for convenience to join in on the fun.

Makes sense to me )

I dunno, but i think with the right build it's easy to hang around for ages, especially if you're looking to DOOM with others. Soloing is going to mean a massive use of arrows/durability/tithing but when others are taking damage, and giving it too it's a whole different ballgame.

As a tamer i used to just sit on my hiryu/cu and stay there for years as there are always bandages around and money to buy them...

As a mage, just go LRC.

As a Melee just bring a few weaps and let someone else take the agro (just make sure you get honour in there;) )

Unfortunatly it's always quiet on my shard (

I took one of my chars to Doom recently. I am not strong enough to solo Doom, but I was hoping to meet up with a group there and do some hunting. After 5 days, where I never saw another soul, I left. :(.

Chessy Doom appears to be vacant.

I suspect so too... I tried my hand at that for a while, but eventually gave up. I still want to park a char in Doom, but haven't done it yet. I decided not to tie up an existing character and instead started building a new char for this purpose. Once I collect enough POF to imbue his suit and finish training, I'll get him in there. I decided to go with a Sampire and a repair/rez craftsman team. I'll have to take him out about once every 2 weeks to repair weapons, but it should work.
