Who else has read this thing in its entirety?

In my younger days I'd read books 1 through 5, and thought it was a great series. I recently had the misfortune of deciding that I should read the rest of the series.

From Faith of the Fallen on, it's like communists kicked Terry Goodkind's puppy after telling him to go make them a sandwich.

In my opinion, it stopped being a story and started being Goodkind's ranting newsletter. The characters would give the same speeches, over and over and over and over again, while hollow shells of characters set up perfect opportunities to hear the speeches over and over and over again.

Are the earlier books just colored by the fact that I read them in my youth, and apparently had a much higher tolerance for BS? Or did anybody else notice a drastic change in the 'tone' of the series?

Ive read the entire series through several times. The books got pretty sappy and lovey dovey at toward the middle/end. Still some good stories and ideas Goodkind had through all of them though. I dont know what you consider your younger days but i started reading this series when i was 18? and finished it about 2 years ago when i was 25.

Another good series is A Song of Ice and Fire. First book is A Game of Thrones. Written by George R.R. Martin. Newest Book is supposed to be out this fall/winter.

Damn its been a couple years since i went through The Dark Tower series as well, by Stephen King.

All frackin epic books.

I probably started with SoT when I was 15/16. I thought it was a good read, but never read Faith of the Fallen. After picking it up again recently, it just left a bad taste in my mouth when he made the Order communists.

When you say you finished the series, do you mean all the way to 11? Because I'm just finishing up 11 now, and haven't seen much sappy/lovey dovey for quite a few books. I don't think the main characters have even seen each other for a few books now. Unless you count the book that only had the two main characters in it for half a chapter at the end....

Anyway...

I've heard good things about a Song of Ice and Fire, but haven't gotten around to reading it. From what I recall, the books are being released pretty far apart. Even the Wheel of Time is keeping a better pace, and that author's dead.

...And I won't even get into the Wheel of Time's inability to defecate without 400+ pages of setup and descriptive imagery about the odor, consistency, and flavour, as well as the political machinations that led up to their choice of toilet paper.

I cannot see how there are anymore books in SoT so i assume ive read up till the last one. Although havnt looked at them since 2008? and only to read the last couple books in the series.

Ice and Fire is excellent do read. It is aggravatingly spaced apart.

And holy sheep **** The Wheel of Time? I dont think ive read any of those since i was early teens. They are still printing new ones? The series started in the early 90s?

Looks like they're finally wrapping it up next year, if everything stays on schedule.

After it's finally done, I think I might have to sit down and read the whole damn series from beginning to end, just to say I've done it. I stopped reading a few books back because I just couldn't slog through it any more with no end in sight.

sword of truth became an awesome tv series the last 2 yrs.

goodkind copied robert jordan (wheel series) to a T. I am really supprised he wasnt sued but I guess you cant. Robert Jordan died a few yrs ago so I think someone is just finishing that series for him.

i read wheel of time 1-7 or so and sword series 1-5 or so and kinda got tired of them.

read all stephan kings books so the tower series has bases in all his other books so it helps even more to know all the char from other books. That series is awesome.

another favorite of mine is thomas covenant and the last book last year was one of his best. the next book comes out next month.

game of thrones i am gonna read on my cruise this weekend. they are converting it to a HBO series or something.

I just finished watching the SoT tv series not too long ago.

It wasn't too terrible standing on its own, but they bastardized the Sword of Truth storyline pretty bad.

Ya im sorry but the SoT TV series never got more than 2 hours of my attention. Its hard to watch fantasys played out like that on the little screen for one. Secondly they realy did get to far from the story line of th ebooks from what i saw.

Read Steven Erikson, Malazan Book of the Fallen, best series ever. Sword of Truth series went from epic first 3 books to painful to read after that. The new writer finishing Jordan's book is better but still way to much detail about the surroundings and the smell of the characters poop and BO and not enough actual story telling. Song of Fire and Ice by George R Martin is great but he takes around 3 years per book makes for too much waiting.

I agree that you should read
Malazans Book of the Fallen.
Its one of the better series and is non stop action that is not only well written but it actually has a well thought out plot.

I have read so many of the series more than once.
Robert Jordan was rad but Brandon Sanderson is doing a nice job keeping the last books very interesting and fast paced.
The Gathering Storm is one of the best in the whole series.
Do yourself a favor and finish it.
Books 5- 7 are slow but it picks up after that.

I also recommend David Eddings
The Ruby Knight
or one of my new favourites Patrick Rothfuss. The Name of the Wind is his first I've read.

Terry goodkind sucks balls after book 5

Ice and Fire series is painful to me due to the lag between the stories, not to mention he keeps killing off some of the main characters!! I feel like its a new series each book.

My favorite by far is the Belgarath series by David Eddings.

I read the entire Sword of Truth series and thoroughly enjoyed it. The books definitely tailed off toward the end, but they were still interesting reads. Goodkind is a little too preachy for my taste, but I was able to overlook that and still enjoy the series.

The Legend of the Seeker TV series was another story...
