In case you haven't heard, Richard Garriott's latest endeavor has been officially scrapped. Tabula Rasa will be turned off forever on February 28, 2008.

Maybe next time he should try making a sandbox kind of game, with a robust and immersive persistent world. I can only imagine a game like that would gain a loyal following that would see it through good times, and bad alike. If only he had that kind of vision....

Not to demean your sarcasm.. but kind of like the original vision of UO? Funny how ideas get corrupted over time. Remember how monster/animal spawns were supposed to be based on the current ecology? In UO now the monsters/animals spawn for no reason.

I was being a bit facetious about it, certainly. When I first heard about TR, my only hope was that he would make it a sandbox game like UO (and now Darkfall) instead of being YATP (Yet Another Theme Park). As soon as I found out NCSoft would be the publisher, I knew that was out the window..

Although I enjoyed TR for what it was, and the graphics were great, it had no long term playability, at all... If you've never played it, and are even vaguely interested in seeing what it is/was, the game will be free to play on 1-10-09.

I posted about this awhile back in UHall, and it got moved to OT.

I'm saddened by this, because it was supposed to be his comeback into games, but it didn't turn out to be the big bang he expected it to be.

Tabula Rasa wasn't a bad game, but it was an incomplete one. If it had more polish and more direction, maybe it wouldn't have encountered this fate. Though, with any MMO, no one can exactly be sure.

UO was almost reliant on Lord British and company's In-game playing. Ever since inception UO was intended to be an online game interrupted by "worldly events" aka GM/dev events.
Granted I haven't played since beta until 6 months ago, but the differences between beta and now are almost disgusting to a person expecting the original dev vision.
