Try grilling the garden hose.
While I have never tried it, I suspect garden hose might be tough, and rubbery in texture. For the vegetarian crowd, portabello mushrooms, eggplant, summer squash, and zucchini, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, and olive oil might be a more palatable choice.
I saw a recipe on Food Network for a dip made from pureed grilled eggplant, with toasted pine nuts, fresh herbs, olive oil, and such, that looked really tasty. Funny though, last time I thought about making it, eggplant cost nearly as much per pound as steak at the market. Not being a vegetarian, I chose the carnivorous route, which was also very tasty.
