Orange Petals not working properly?

Has anyone else noticed (or was there a change in the past I missed) that the Orange Petals no longer last 5 full minutes?

I recently noticed a few months ago that they last random amounts of time now, anywhere from thirty seconds to five minutes, usually averaging a minute or so per petal. This has caused me to go through my reserves like crazy, and with each petal weighing one stone, it is impossible to carry all i need when doing a peerless, where before i could grab 5 and have plenty to do a few runs, now i need to grab 25 and still run out before one Medusa is over.

After asking around in general chat, some people have said they noticed a difference after this latest publish, but after searching pub notes, there was no mention of petals.

High level poisons have a chance to "break" the petal effect. Rather than just overriding it, they'll actually remove it. Don't know if that is happening here but may bear investigation.

When did that change go into effect? I must have missed that somehow. I just noticed it a few months ago and its been driving me nuts. I mean if that's how its supposed to be that's OK with me, however I think the stacked weights need to be adjusted then.

I remember something about that... and have had it removed a few times in play I just figured it was that happening.

What's even odder is the rare occasion when a character who has no Resisting Spells skill and hasn't used a petal actually resists being poisoned and displays the same message you see after using orange petals! I think it only has a chance to happen if your character was poisoned shortly before and used Cure spell to cure the poisoning. (Might work that way with Cleanse by Fire also, but I'm not sure about that.)

I tracked down Publish 71 notes on UOGuide: http://www.uoguide.com/Publish_71 . Couldn't find them on the official UO site or in the set of old, archived notes on Stratics.

When they revamped the main UO.com website they lost a lot of their archived stuff, now you can only find it on Stratics or UOGuide, either way thank you for the post!

When poison is cured by any means except potions, the target receives a temporary resistance which is similar to, but less effective than the natural resistance granted by the poisoning skill.
This could be why you are seeing people have that message as if they were using petals.

Petals/Poison Immunity:
  • Deadly poison and stronger now have a 25% chance to break the poison immunity granted by orange petals.
And this explains why my petals keep breaking.

Now that I know they why, can the devs please look into changing the weight? It is extremely annoying in the first place, but if the Petals/posion immunity is going to stay like this than can petal weight be changed to 1/10 like other stackables instead of 1/1 stones? This change causes players (like me and many, many others) to carry more petals on them for the same fights leaving less room in our packs.

According to those publish notes, if your necro was to get poisoned, and you cured him with anything other than a potion, he gains a slight resistance similar to that of the petal, so that is why you might be seeing the message. It doesn't say how long that resistance lasts though so hard to tell.

Temporary resistance caps at 4, and decays by 1 every 8 seconds.
If you look in the publish thread(TC) I think there may be the resist chance numbers.

I think something did change recently. I use 120 resist spells and I'm suddenly getting poisoned at Medusa when it never seemed to happen before.

Petals used to work at Medusa too, now they don't, at all. They break every time. Not a "chance" to break, but they DO break each and every mother fluffing time.

I wish they would just remove the passive poison immunity from Poisoning Skill, and make a % Enhance Orange Petal (EOP) for People with Poisoning, and a weight reduction/need for the consumable (orange petal) would actually have more of a use.

Say 100.0 Poisoning Skill (real skill) = 100.0 % Orange petal cure chance/duration increase. It would make orange petals a slightly more useful resource without making them less effective for people who do not have the Poisoning Skill.

The main reason I would like the passive poison resist Removed is because it's RNG and can and often does break mage-dueling.
You would know if someone used an orange petal in a duel.
