Catskills RP Information Central

Below is some information to get you started in Role Play with guilds that follow a centralized ROE (Rules of Engagement) and/or are known to primarily engage in RP-based storytelling.

We are fortunate enough to have some of the most historically known guilds across all shards that call Catskills home. Catskills was/is home to some of the greatest RP guilds such as: Shadowclan Orcs (SCO), Undead Lords (UDL), Crimson Alliance (CA), The Undead (UND), Purple Guardians of Honor (PGoH), Guardians of Valhalla (GoV), Knights of Yew (KoY), Village of Aegis (VoA), United Pirates (UP), Dragon's Claw (VvV), and yes even our own Children of Darkness (CoD). If I forget some, it certainly isn't intentional and my deepest apologies. (PM me and I'll add you here.)

Here are some basic things you should know:

GUILD/CHARACTER ALIGNMENT
Guilds usually align themselves either Good (usually Order), Neutral (switches often) or Bad (usually Chaos). There are varying degrees of each alignment and individual characters within a guild can have a different degree or alignment altogether. It is always best to interact with the individual characters to truly know them.

Lawful
A character or guild that aligns as lawful is law-abiding and almost always lives by a code. They can be lawful good, lawful neutral, or lawful evil. Examples: Purple Guardians of Honor and Children of Darkness are both LAWFUL GOOD. The Undead or the Undead Lords are both LAWFUL EVIL. All these guilds have a very intricate and expansive code of conduct, rulebook, that they operate under.

Chaotic
A character or guild that aligns as chaotic is quite the opposite and most usually lives with almost no restrictions at all. They can be chaotic good, chaotic neutral, or chaotic evil. Examples: United Pirates is CHAOTIC NEUTRAL; they don't really have a set of rules, actually they live to break them. Their actions could be perceived as good, or they can be perceived as bad --- hence their neutral stance.

RP COLLABORATION
Folks should be respectful of other groups' storylines, plots, role playing style. Respect begets respect. When you are engaging in role play, you may wish to use the following guidelines:

A) Guild Abbreviations and/or Titles mean nothing, they are a game mechanic and should not be used as RP identifiers. The truth is you do not know someone until they actually introduce themselves. And you may have heard of them, which certainly can have some misconceptions or imply bias toward them, but unless you know them you cannot substantiate any claims to their identity or role within their clans.

B) Use party chats to collaborate on storylines. Specifically when it comes to RPvP engagements. You cannot kill off someone's characters (which they have worked very hard on) without their permissions. Remember its their characters, their story, their game.

C) Highlights do NOT always mean ENEMY. The war declaration system has been used for decades, especially since the birth of Trammel, to allow for small interactions between groups. That does NOT mean they are kill on sight. We can and do highlight ourselves to FRIENDS. Again, ORANGE doesn't mean DEAD in RP.

D) Please remember that how folks act while in character is not necessarily how they are in real life. Many times things said or done are taken personally, when they are really not. This includes use of foul language and certain situations. A simple ICQ conversation can quickly clear things up.

E) Use the commonly known Rules of Engagement for any and all RPvP encounters. I have listed them below. Always remember to collaborate (use party chat) and be respectful. There is no TRASH TALKING in RP.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE “IN CHARACTER”
When you are in game, in public, you are "in character". Forums, private messages, party chats, guild chats, and alliance chats are some areas that may be open to OUT OF CHARACTER (OOC) general interaction. Depends on how your guild structures themselves.

When approaching non-RP'ers, you can invite them to a party chat to talk more openly. Most non-RP'ers tend to follow along though and they are quick to pick up on your RP. Explaining to them what you are doing who you are and introducing yourself is always "universal".

The general style of our shard is high-fantasy, hard core. That means you may encounter a lot of supernatural situations and use of questionable language and also special use of languages (like elvish, latin, etc.). Please keep that in mind.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
The following Rules of Engagement, are the accepted upon ROE’s for all guilds, in all situations. The only exception to these rules are those ROE modifications allowed by the parties involved and how they chose to engage with each other through collaborative efforts.

ARMOR RESTRICTIONS: Currently characters are only restricted from wearing FACTION ITEMS and can wear artifacts and modified armor and weapons.
  • DO NOT GO OOC – RP PvP engagements must be done IN CHARACTER at all times.
  • DO NOT GO TAGLESS – All combat characters should display their guild abbreviations and titles and show their allegience. This allows, specially since orange does not equal foe (out of system guilds declare to both friend and foe), for more clear identification. KNOW THY ENEMY!
  • DO NOT PLOT BULLY – If you want to involve a person into your plot, make sure that it happens with their consent. This includes the “making” of a vampire or jailing a character to stand trial. Everything should be consentual.
  • DO NOT ATTACK WITHOUT WARNING – This means, be sure you ROLE PLAY your intentions to attack and they confirm. This includes ships out in the seas; they must be manned and you must RP your intentions prior to attacking their ships. RP > PvP in all situations. Stealthers/Assassins must have private confirmation (ICQ, party chat, etc.) to attack without warning.
  • DO NOT KILL AFK’ERS – If they cannot confirm your intentions, they are considered AFK; do not engage.
  • DO NOT LOOT – Ever! Do not even look in a body. Make sure to insure all your valuables.
  • DO NOT BRING YOUR GREATER DRAGONS – You are only allowed 1 pet plus a mount, and you can use upto 4 slots (a total of 4 slots). Mounts are allowed as long as it falls into these rules.
  • DO NOT RESS KILL – In fact, you should offer a resurrection if you can.
  • DO NOT RE-ENGAGE A KILLED PLAYER – You should wait a minimum of 30 minutes for the player to regroup.
  • DO NOT RE-ENGAGE AFTER BEING KILLED – You are required to wear your death robes over your armor after you recollect for 30 mins. However, for large scale battles between groups, once you are dead there is absolutely NO RE-ENGAGEMENT allowed, not on ANY of the players characters, for 24 hours. Use this time to role play injuries, role play capture, crawling on your knees to your ship, or other befitting conditions. You must remain in the area while wearing your death robe for the full 30 minutes or until your opponents exit the area entirely.
As much as we, the guildmasters of our guilds, take pride is carefully selecting applicants before adding them, it can never fully be guaranteed that a black sheep hasn’t sneaked into a guild and breaks these rules. All members are encouraged to take screen shots (especially of journals) of infractions should any arise and raise those concerns to their guild leaders in the private areas of these forums or in person (or ICQ).
