OMG! I'm gonna die of OLD AGE waiting for EC client to Patch

Okay I decided to give the EC client another go with pinco's UI. So I dled and unzipped pinco's as per the directions on his page. I go to open EC, and I need to patch. OMG! It's soooo sloooooow! Good thing I'm on hi-speed, if I were still on dial-up I'd be here next MONTH!!! Why is EC so slow to patch?

Well it finished patching at 2:00 and I have been learning Pinco's and EC. I gotta admit this is neat!

You did select the "Extended Edition" download right? This contains alot more of the files so the patcher downloads less...

home connection? my server is on the best server farm on Italy... obviously if you try to download from the other side of the world it will never be fast, but to avoid that I should pay for mirroring all over the world, but with a balance almost equal to 0 it's already hard to keep things running as they are... :|

I don't know the type of system that you have - but I do download from various parts of the world and for some reason - the download of the UI is about as slow as I've seen... usually around 50kbps or so. It may be an issue with something else between here and there, but that's slow for most anywhere in the world that's past the dial-up age.

I am glad to hear that you are on a good server farm. Hopefully at some point whatever is delaying things along the route from there to here will be fixed.

Perhaps looking at Cloudflare free accounts to use their CDN might help you there.

it's free there, but in order to use custom DNS I'll have to pay MUCH more for the domain itself...

I should add the pigeons service, you tie an USB pendrive to a pigeon and I'll load the UI inside that and send it back, it's possible that will arrive sooner

I tried something like this with a friend.... bought a memstick off EBay had it sent to him.... supposed to be a 8GB stick..... turns out it only held 4 and stopped... so tried again from different source on EBay same result... got angry but EBay would not help me getting my money back because I didn't ship it to ME. So wound up with nothing to show for having spent $ for 2 sticks. And ended up telling EBay where to stick themselves... They wanted me to apologize for giving the vendors a bad rating... I spelled out exactly what happened and why they got it... They deserved it. First one finally gave me a rebate.... but the second one even though the device was returned to them .... Never acknowledged it's return nor did they ever refund me and kept saying I was lying. Which I know we were not. The program was 6GB .... should have fit on the 8GB drive if the drive indeed was 8GB which it was not. Anyway... I will continue to support Pinco when I can. As I'm sure it's expensive. I'm hoping that the job for UO is going well... but honestly I hope you find a great job close to home Pinco so you can continue to play UO. You're the best.

Ah, so you're tied to the server farm DNS.
I run my own dedicated server, so I have such problems here. A pity. A CDN would surely help there.

Here something like this can't happen, we have the right of recess. Basically when you buy something online or by phone or by any other means that is not going personally to a shop, you can send whatever you bought back withing 15 days from the product arrival. It doesn't matter if what you bought is working or not, you can send it back anyway, even if it's just because you changed your mind or you don't like it
The shops can't refuse to take items back and/or refund or they will lose the selling license...

i tried to download pincos on 3 occasions. this was maybe 6 months ago. each time it was taking 5 hours plus and eventually i gave up. am i missing something? everyone says how easy it is but i could never get it to work. my internet is 50/75 and im on the east coast usa.

Never had that trouble Smoot. Sorry to hear about that. I know there is a LOT too Pinco's but then ..... it is really awesome. Somewhat bulky due to the music files and such but it really is good.

I've frequently had issues with Pinco's patcher getting stuck on the initial install, I don't know why.

I'm also doing a fresh install of the EC right now and it is just taking FAR too long for my internet speed. I can download games 5 times its size on Steam in the same amount of time. I mean, it's less than 1 megabyte/sec with 50 megabit internet.

There's a bit of fake flash memory out there, especially SD/microSD, reformatted to look like higher capacities. Some are factory rejects (and as such might carry an official label), and yet others were fine, both reformatted by unscrupulous wholesalers. A well-known online retailer (former name begins with B, new name begins with R) has been occasionally offering generic flash memory at prices too good to be true, which I'd never trust in a million years.

First off ....Pinco thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the UI! it is incredible! I have been having a great time just being able to sort my stuff! Make working on house deco so much easier. I may never go back to CC. I've got my sister, Luc of Legends, to try it. Besides I think hi-speed has spoiled me a little. Remember back when were all on dialup and you had to reinstall uo for one reason or another? Now that was a patching nightmare, I'd just leave computer downloading patches while I did other stuff. Sis says I'm like Ed Grubermann from the "Ti Kwan Leep" skit; "Yeah, yeah, yeah Patience. How long will that take?"
