Old player wondering about mage template..

So i have been messing around with making a new archer. But i would kinda like to give a mage a try. My old char only has GM in Mage/eval/med and i think music provoke and wrestle. I'm looking for a PvM build, just something to make some gold so i can work on better equipment etc.

Anyway any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are so many ways you can go with a mage that it's rather funny.

The most effective PvM mage in my opinion is the necro/spellweaver/mage.
That's 120 in all skills, magery, meditation, eval int, spellweaving, necromancy, spirit speak.

My personal favorite, though significantly less effective than the MSN (mage/spellweaving/necro) has 110 magery, 115 meditation, 120 wrestle, 120 spellweaving, 115 EI, 110 resist and whatever is left over changes from one skill to another (typically chivalry for remove curses).

It's just fun to have a mage who can also tank when needed.

Iam a returning mage and I see all these templates and builds. All in all very good, but I kinda miss the "spellrotations" to get the most out of each template.

Currently I have a mage with:
(I havnt had the money to buy 120ps yet)

Magery 115
Meditation 115
Eval 115
Inscription 100
Hiding 100 (I know its skillpoint waste, but it saved me many many times)
Resist 75


I have wrestle 105 stoned off atm

So there is something to work with

Any ideas? And please tell what spells/spell combos to cast for maximum dps

120 mage
120 eval
120 necro
120 ss
120 music
120 peace


drop meditation for scribe for maximum damage - or discord if you swing that way.

pick up AS MUCH SDI AS YOU CAN since there is no SDI cap on PvM, also get a slayer book.

you will see insane amounts of damage on peace/discod creatures that just sit there and wet their pants while you omen/corpse/FS/omen/FS/omen/FS/omen.

another thing, is that if you don't intend on withering or casting strangle (strangle to me is wasted DPS for PvM) is drop your necro to 60 for use of the core necro spells. wisp, omen, corpse, pain spike, so on.

if you want to farm champs in tram or fel facets keep necro at 105 for withering purposes.

Hmm interesting build for sure. However without med won't it be hard to keep up enough mana to rotate such spells? Oh wait and with the build you listed, that is already cap can't fit med/inscribe or discord lol. Maybe i am missing something though.

yep you're right i messed up a bit.

you can't run a scribe/nec/peacer.

just keep:

105 necro
120 ss
120 mage
120 eval

rotate music and peace with med and scribe. you won't need mana if you stay in wraith form (mana leech/wither)

Thanks for the reply. Im kinda poor so i can't really afford stones. But i think i will try that build with music/peace for now and see how it goes.

You could tweak a few things I'm sure 120 bush would be worth it in my view.

I am working up an ABC archer as it stands right now. Since i can't really afford the items required to furnish a mage. Hopefully i can get to the point i can farm some gold. hehe.

Oh and im not sure if someone can answer this but, if you have a slayer spellbook does it have to be equipped to have an effect? Such as if im holding a mage weapon do i still get the spellbook's slayer effect?

yes, it must be equipped.

if you are PvMing don't bother keeping one hand open. chugging is too expensive for a PvM build IMO - especially if you find friends or a guild and plan on dooming/melisande's/etc.



i also like Capt.E's template. but it's difficult to utilize all the spells since you can't shoot while casting or keep your weapon special procced while you cast.
