:D Well I think they've answered your question quite well Jealousy indeed. WoW does'nt impress me. UO gives you way more options and the community is more open than Wow I think my brother played it until I convinced him to give UO another try and it worked.:D We both play on Siege and are Happy here. As for the risk of getting this thread locked it's not likely unless things go way sour and seeing as the mod's have already posted on this thread so far I think it'll be fine.:D Hiya Mods:)

Did it ever occur to you that a lot of them (although certainly under 10 million of them) actually play UO as well as WOW?

Dude, you Win...

and I can only speak for myself, but I keep coming back to these boards with the slim hope that I might read of plans for actual Improvements to UO...

Until then, my UO accounts lay dorment and I play WoW... Plain and Simple as it maybe, its Entertainment... something UO lost a long time ago...

and there is always Hope... But since I don't own it, there's nothing I can do about it...

Why do we keep coming back and reading the UO forums?

Well I Play WoW and am a mod for the Stratics WoW forums. However i also play UO so i read and post on the UO forums as well.

I am not the only one either. I have 3 friends who Play WoW with me. They also Play UO.

So theres one side of why WoW players read the UO forums. Another is that some might want to keep up with whats going on in the game incase they ever return.

I began playing UO around 9 years ago, and stopped not long after Trammel came out for the same reasons thousands of others stopped.

What may have kept many of us playing would have been for the devs to implement a few pvp shards that had the same basic pvp rules prior to the Trammel expansion. Offer a free, time-limited character transfer to the shard so that the pvp shards would be immediately active after implementation. Such an amazingly simple concept, one that was voiced for years, but shamingly, has never been acted upon. (Siege Perilous is not what I had in mind).

In addition, since the devs decided to make PVE their highest priority at that time, they should have implemented patches (or expansions) that greatly improved on the mob AI and game graphics immediately after making that choice. Of course, they chose not to do either of those things in a timely manner. Had they done this, UO might have had a snowball's chance at competing with WoW which, of course, is heavy on graphics and monster (boss) AI.

However, even the relatively well-designed games such as WoW become stale after a few years. I figured I'd check out the forums at what used to be my favorite website back in the day, and learn about the state of the union of what used to be my favorite game. Pre-trammel UO was, and still is, the best game I've ever played. Considering what I've been reading on the forums, however, I don't think I'll be reactivating my account any time soon.

I played UO from T2A to AoS, quit and took up wow until just recently. Like others have said, its gotten stale. I reactivated UO to play over the summer and until either the new wow expansion or another game distracts me away from it. But these past couple weeks have been a blast. Pre Tram UO was the best game ever, hands down. But present day UO is probably still in a distant second. At this point I feel like I just want to sit on my porch outside of Vesper until I get the system message saying -

"Well guys...this is it. Thanks for playing, UO2 release date TBA"

Haha, UO2's release date was sometime in 2002 according to the back of the CD case I got with my copy of Ultima IX, Ascension. More like "Well guys... this is it. Thanks for playing, why not try Warhammer?"

Because we play both games? Because we started out here? Because we realise that UO is actually a more addictive game then WoW with more depth and diversity?

Those are just a few of the reasons that I post here although I play WoW and UO. Although, I will say that when I didn't have an active UO account I wasn't posting on the UO forums, and now that I don't have an active WoW account I'm not posting on any WoW forums.

I don't think anyone complains about a game because they want to see it end. Thats a lot of work for something you seriously don't care about.

The only time I've EVER complained about anything in UO it was because I wanted to see the game improved.

Do you honestly believe that EA was the only company to ever cancel a game? Mythic (before EA) and even Blizzard have cancelled long awaited games. Just because they didn't make an UO2 in 2002 (which honestly would have killed UO) doesn't mean they won't make one in the future.

Yes, I honestly believe that, that is exactly what I was saying!

Personally, I hope they do not make an "Ultima" anything anymore. Ascension was a sad failure. If they use the Ultima name to make another game, it won't be because of the great history, storylines and characters (How can you even continue Ultima without LB, I still wonder) - It will be a gimmick to get people to try a game that only barely resembles a real Ultima. (Hmm, maybe with samurai, elves and giant dogs.)

I think they should use the principles that work so well in the series - having real, interesting recurring characters and a world you can interact with totally 100% and go with something new. But hey, that's just one person's opinion.

And you might be right, maybe they will make a UO2, but the various keepers of Ultima have not been giving it the love it deserves since the early 2000s with the joke that was Ascension. (And what about the U8 expansion or the plot changes to Serpent Isle? Shhh.) So do you really think they are going to invest in a UO2 and do a good job?

ill eat a bullet before playing wow, but i do really love these threads. my favorite thing to read is how people talk about the decline of the "real ultima world"...... not what it used to be, or what it was created to be..... so on and so forth..... so they leave....

so, in their attempt to reclaim that..... the solution????

go join a game with 6 chars that do breakdance moves from the 80's, half of the options in the game...... and the icing on the cake...... paris hilton selling designer handbags....

yup...... that move made sense. lol:cheerleader:

however, thanks for the laughs.
