Ok House Design Guru's. I need your help

I'm trying to hide a chimney poking into my 3rd floor from the 2nd floor kitchen. My thought was to cover it up with a hearth of the home fire. Is what I'm attempting (and failing at) even possible? Has someone else already done it, and if so, how's it done?

did you try placing the hearth of the home first then placing the oven 2nd?

I think (if memory serves me right) i always built my smith shop above my loung or kitchen (sounds weird for rl but it worked) so that my large forge would cover it, or at least mostly but what was left would look the same as the forge anyway.

again if memory serves me right, you can place item and rase them before placing a forge then lower them to hide the forge and the chimny.

Yes, but the problem is I can't place the stove underneath it unless I remove 2 floor tiles above it (in the spot where the hearth goes). I can raise the hearth using goza's and remove the floor underneath, but when I do that I still get the message that something is blocking placement of the oven. I'll have to experiment with how high I can raise the goza's and still place the hearth. That might be the key. I'll have to try it when I get home later today.

sorry I forgot about those 2 floor tiles been along time since I placed a oven in a customized house, but ya if you raise the gozas up high enough you might be able to place the hearth on them and lower the hearth down onto the oven's chimney.

The highest I can raise the gozas and still place the hearth on top is 5 high. But even at that height I can't place the oven on the floor beneath.

Placing the oven first blocks placement of the hearth completely.

I'm beginning to think it's not possible. has anyone ever successfully stacked 2 fireplaces/ovens on top of one another?


Ok, problem is partially solved.
I was able to place 2 hearth's of the home fire on top of one another. It wasn't the exact solution I was looking for, but it works... for now.

If someone knows of or comes up with a way to place an oven under the hearth, please, please, please post it. I hate not being able to figure it out.

You may have to remove the ceiling/roof tiles above the hearth of the home fire on the third floor in order to place it higher. I'd try that, then place it as high as you can, then see if you can stick the oven on the floor below. You'll want to break up the hearth I think, so you can lower it later (after you customize and put the ceiling or roof tiles back in), make sure you remember to lock down the broken pieces.

Yeah, tried that. I think it just boils down to there's not enough clearance. I was able to place the hearth on the 3rd floor on goza's I'd raised up to their max. But after breaking it and removing the floor, I still couldn't place the oven. I think this is just an impossible goal.

Although, the hearth does look more inviting in the kitchen.

Ok I got it to work. I suspect the reason is that the stone oven needs a clearance of at least 20 or so, which means you have to place the hearth above it high enough to walk under. You can do this using a castle style ladder.

What I did was clear out two floor tiles above where the oven would go, then I placed a north facing castle ladder directly to the south of one of the missing floor tiles. Walk up the ladder so you're on it and take a step, then place a square goza mat by targetting yourself. Axe the ladder, and place it again, north facing castle-style underneath the second missing floor tile space. Place another goza up in the air. Axe the ladder, place the hearth. Use your dec tool to lower the goza (should be on last target) to break the hearth. Go downstairs and place your oven, remember you have to target the rightmost tile instead of the left, kinda weird but whatever. Go back up and lower left side of the hearth all the way down then the right side.

I went into custom mode after this to see what would happen - the hearth redeeds and goes into the moving crate (no surprise really). So when you customize and put your top floor or ceiling or whatever back in, remember to lock down both halves of the hearth.

It is possible to place a hearth on top of a 2nd floor hearth... (Trust me, i've done it) No need for all those gozas crap, Simply target the floor where the hearth is partly covered by the floor tiles. You should be able to place.

Stacking Stone Ovens

Hi Black Sun,

Here are some screenshots of how you can place a stone oven on the floor above another one. To be certain it still works, I tested it today and it does (just so you don't tear your house apart for nothing).

Place two gozas where you want your 1st floor oven. Raise twice, place stone oven on top of the gozas and lower one half to split the stone oven. lock down both sections. It will look like:

The basic idea of this is to simply lower the second floor stone oven thru the "ceiling" of the second floor (i.e., the floor of the third floor).

Use Goza mats and place the stone oven just as you do the initial one, splitting it in half and locking down.

Removing third floor floor tiles from the customize menu....

Lowering the stone oven through the ceiling of the second floor.

Edit: Obviousely, I simplified this using the initial floor, but the concept is the same if it were to be stone ovens on the second and third floors.
It works with any multi-tile item, including the hearth (it splits and can be lowered thru the ceiling if you want a hearth on top of it).

I hope this helps. For me it is easier than working with the ladders, tables and gozas (no offense, I salute all of you who can, I'm just not that talented).
