1st, Id like to thank Mesanna for taking care of all the Historical Society Banners. I'm sure it was no easy task and cut into her valuable time. They look awesome & I am thankful.

and 2nd, I'll see ya'll sometime in the future. I just came back a few weeks ago after abt +9months away. Figured Id try playing some over the holidays, this was much shorter lived then I'd anticipated. No u cant have my stuff - my homes will sit till they turn off the servers, but that doesn't mean I'll play the game.

I found a guy (no names) who was obviously scripting. I paged a GM and waited. No response after a long wait. I boxed the guy off to stop him from attacking his mount (he would step off from it every 20sec or so then step back and resume attacking while saying "k" in between). Finally my GM response was "We'll look into this.... ". The script was obviously still running because he'd change directions while boxed in (trying to get back to attack his horse then to move off) all the while saying "k" in between this cycle. The GM(no names) who responded did nothing.

Sooo..... its obvious to me that GMs/UO doesn't care abt the honesty of their own game enough to enforce their own TOS. Once again, this is why I've quit playing numerous times in the past. Usually I go months before I quit again tho, haha. The irony is that I'm quitting on the exact same day that Mesanna placed my Historical Society Banners... LOL.... how classic. Im not mad at anyone, life is too short to get mad. I am disappointed. For me its an ethical issue, if they don't care enough to stop it why should I care enough to play? But they still get my money even when I don't play so I'm sure they still wont care.

Halo 4 comes out soon anyways I guess... and both DICE(Battlefield3) and Bungie/343Studios take honesty in game play VERY seriously. All DICE servers run PunkBuster :)
Catch all u fellow UO Nerds later :)

Acid Rain sugar I think I need to explain how the GM system works.....
First off when you paged a GM you went into the Que... If a active GM was available for review of your page, they gave it a good look and did one of the following.
1. Recorded the account and matter in the file as when you page your logs are automaticly taken and stored for later review when they need to determine the issue.
2. Did all of what is above and did an invisable observance of the player and checked if they were indeed in atendance of their character. (talked to them via text, if no responce then visable talked to them to elisit an answer)
No matter how many times you page the first call is master in the issue. Remember, All players are due privacy and this can not be waved for anyone including you. GM's cant tell you what is being done or if anything was found. Purely its not your business.
Take it from me no one who works for UO sluffs off the rules of the game. BUT EVERYONE gets fair treatment, Mesanna or any staff will back me up on this one.
EA's legal department didnt draw up those pages in the TOS and ROC for their mid term exam...

Beleave me when I say I understand your fustration.

There is no game on this planet that doesn't have cheaters, even if the GMs worked on nothing else 24/7 they wouldn't be able to eliminate it all. They do take action, now and then you'll find someone has admitted they've been banned. But they don't publicly denounce people - it's against policy to name and shame.
For ones like this training afk, it's fairly minor in the scheme of things, they're basically harming no one but themselves. They're not learning how to play the character or skill to best effect by training this way.

I think it's a shame that people let such things get to them so much :( I tend to think 'what a pratt', report them and move on. I'm not going to let them spoil my enjoyment of the game.

I reported an AFK scritp miner a few weeks back, after i killed him! He was dead and still trying to cast recall, over and over again. After reporting the Scripter I went back to killing those trying to collect halloween masks in the same area. Within 10 mins a GM repsonded to my Page and told me they were looking into it. So i ran off to where I killed the AFK miner and sure enough there he was still standing there dead and trying to recall out. 2 minuets latter he was gone! Thats the first ever time i have had a GM turn up for a scripter within the hour of paging, and because he was fast in his responce he caught the Scripter red handed and took the corret action, which was a 48 hour ban i guess. But the moral of the sorty is, that they will do something if indeed the person reported is AFK scripting

So the moral of the story is if your cheating to train your ok but if your cheating to gain your doing a no no? I'd just like to point out that if you do one, your very likely to do the other as well.

I'm ok with ark scripting to gain skills..not for resource farming..my idea is the more trained toons the more you'll actually play with different styles..I know it's a no no I'm aware I just don't see the problem with scripting to eliminate the monotonous grind gaining some skills...

..btw way to kill me afk!

"Vice is a monster of such awful mien
That to be hated needs just to be seen
Yet seen to oft...familiar with with it's face
At first abhorred...then endured...then embraced"

Point being...I know your mind thinks "I have a right to do this". You justify it, then it is all OK!!

It is still cheating, by the rules of the game, no matter how well you have it justified as being "OK" because you "Already worked skills".

A person who has played Monopoly a million times before STILL shouldn't bring a pocketful of their own Monopoly money to a game with friends, for example. To do so puts the people that DIDN'T bring their own money at a distinct disadvantage. And it would be considered cheating by everyone playing, with the possible exception of the person who brought their own cash.

If a person has played Solitaire a million times before...by manipulating the cards so they win is still cheating, even if they are only cheating themselves.

Unless, of course the written rules for the game state that these actions are allowed. But they haven't...so it would be considered cheating.

Until the rules for AFK scripting change, all non-cheating people, no matter how long they have played the game, will sit at their computer clicking and playing to raise skills.

You are out playing a game of golf or taking a nap, maybe...which puts everyone who sits and plays by the rules at a "time disadvantage" to you. They spend their time observing the rules, while you cheat, and go do something else.

You might think this is OK, but I know that I for sure do not.

It starts small, always. Once it's "endured and embraced"...too late. It's cheating then, no matter what. Unless the rules change.

That'll teach EA! Oh wait... You do realize voting with your wallet only works if you actually stop giving them money? The company doesn't care if you login 1 bit so long as you're still handing them money so not playing but still paying is a win-win for them. If the company who makes your clothes does so with slave labor in horrible working conditions and you take an ethical stance against it you don't keep buying the clothes...

Unless my mind is fuzzy I did state I'm aware it's a no no..I never said it was "OK" I simply said I dont think its a horrible thing to afk script skills...however I feel resource gathering is outright wrong..not only does and has it destroyed the economy but shrunk the player base as well why have a profession as a miner when these guys are pumping out millions of ore a month throughout their 4/5 accounts..that's where the issue lies..not with some ass clown training his Magery or whatever..

Oh the conundrum of aging your account for vet rewards, and keeping your home standing, Over making a stand by canceling your account. Been there, done that.

Script resource gathering or skill training if proven should be an instant ban, not a 48 hour ban. Macro training while afk, totally different monster. Emergencies sometimes happen.

I for one am sick of seeing all the crafters in heartwood running scripts, for days on end. It bothers me more than seeing recall miners and loggers.

Your mind isn't "fuzzy" maybe...you are just all caught up in "semantics".

See...this line of yours:

I know it's a no no I'm aware I just don't see the problem with scripting to eliminate the monotonous grind gaining some skills...
See...when someone "Doesn't see a problem"...then to me...they think "It's OK". Normally. Unless your thinking has been skewed by telling yourself "I deserve it" or "I don't see the problem" enough times. Please see the poem you quoted above.

Otherwise...would someone that knows something is wrong, by the rules of the game...clearly outlined...and not do it.

I fully understand that you will want too rebut this by stating your point again. But the rules are clear, whether or not YOU see a problem with violating those rules is up to you. But that doesn't change the rules. It just changes your conscience about violating those rules, is all.

Your sarcasm is duly noted.

It's still cheating to AFK script, however, regardless of the activity. Until they change the rules, that is.

Put crates for blocking the Heartwood entrance. kill the cheat by cheating ! I cant see how one could get banned for trying to stop cheaters would be so ridiculous...

i decided to crank up my chiv on my warrior last week.
i logged into game (ATL) and was in my house in new mag and i started cranking out Noble sac's to try to get my last few points to hit 120.
i was not even 5 minutes into it when all of a sudden a GM walked accross my house and asked me how my day was going.

i was shocked, haha!
i said my day was going good and asked him how his day was.
he said it was good and he was just out taking a walk and thought he'd stop in and say hi.
he then left.

i couldnt believe it, a GM actually checked in on me!
and that had to be a fast response from who ever paged on me cause i was only there for like 5 minutes before he showed up.

so they DO actually show up from time to time it seems!

oh hey!
this reminds me, a guild mate of mine has a old account.
it has 3 houses on 3 shards, grandfathered houses of course.
so he put in and got the historical banners for all 3 of them.
i stopped in at his mini tower on LS the other day to drop off a crystal portal i purchased for his house (cause im a nice guy!) and i noticed that the banner they placed blocks people from getting around the house!
hahaha, its one of those old time houses where they put them like 1 tile from the mountains, well the banner was put right in that one tile!

i just thought that was funny.

Well, the thing is, at least for me as a Ultima Online player, that scripters DO spoil my enjoyment of the game.

How ?

Because they make it impossible for me to play any and all aspects of the game that can be scripted as there is simply NO WAY that I, not scripting, can compete with them who are scripting.

Therefore, SCRIPTING DOES SPOIL THE ENJOYMENT OF MY GAMEPLAY. It prevents me from playing all those activities of the game which are scripted.

Why would I spend playing time on gathering resources when there is scripters selling resources way below anything I could sell them for if I had to value my time spent on gathering them ?

Why would I entertain Library Collections where scripters can just script them and sell them for way less than I could if I had to value my time spent collecting Library collectibles ?

And I could go on with a lot more activities in Ultima Online which I no longer bother with since they are scripted without much problems. And that includes, mind you, PvPing which is supposedly an important aspect of this game.

Why bother competing in PvP when there is players using healing scripts, running hacks etc. etc. ?

Stopping scripting, IMHO, should have been set a priority long, but way long ago........

Not to come off as a troll, and I fear my question will come off as such, but if you're "quitting" because a GM isn't disclosing their actual actions to you (which would be a breach of their own rules), why haven't you quit this game for good if it bothers you so much? How did you even manage to stay around long enough to get a Historical Banner?

Poo is correct.
The GM's do pop in..
I have had them at many of my homes over the last few months. My fellow players get miffed if they cant figure out what your doing in your own home....(I was for the most part emptying rune books of dead runes and making hte books and the runes reuseable the last time. Was in fel and guy was adament to get me to come out.... I wonder why.....NOT)

That is what i was trying to tell him Viper09, They cant tell him what if anything they have found him doing. He vary well might have been there and just not chose to give your piqued intrest a notice. I mean If I am in one of my Fel homes I wont be peeking my nose out the bloody door to a stranger... and if in Tram I dont need to ether.... It's my time in game....
If you need an excuse to go play the new halo4 be my guest... geesh We dont need a reason for you to go play. Just dont come off with this for a reason.
As for the banners ... I dont know if I need to really give Mesanna that much work....... over half my homes are that old...she be bannering houses for hours!

Either this, or make it available to everyone... same goes for speed-hacking. sorry to be blunt, but scripting only hurts honest players. Popps illustrated it well with this...

By the way, I left out the healing/pvp scripts/hacks, because they actually make it easier for the "honest" player to kill them, (If you realize they're running scripts).
