Obtaining a Breastplate of the Berserker

I've got my imitation of Lord GOD's Wammy Thrower in development (see http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=209125). So far I am very pleased with the setup. My suit is missing one crucial component, however, the Breastplate of the Berserker. I need the SSI bonus from the Breastplate to get my Soul Glaive to 1.5s. From what I gather, the Breastplate only drops from the Renowned Acid Elemental. It appears it used to drop from Slasher and Navrey, but I haven't heard of any confirmed reports of that since the new arties started coming out.

So my question revolves around the best way to work the Passage of Tears mini-champ and the renowned Acid Elemental. How do you approach this spawn? I would normally go at it with my sampire, but I think the acid damage to my armor and weapons would make that pretty silly. Should I instead use my thrower (who is still potent without the breastplate), my archer, or a mage (if so, what type)? Just looking for some thoughts on the best way to approach this mini-champ so I can complete my thrower's suit.

When I picked up my Breastplace of the Berserker, I was using a necro/mage. Just used withers and summons, as you'd expect. Wither eats through lower level spawns quickly.

I do it on a necro/mystic. I wither the lower end stuff and use RC's, spell plague, and netherbolt/fireball on the higher end stuff. I actually got that drop off a renowned poison ele, but sold it.

Similar, I'd use Necro/Mage or Tamer.

I found 2 on the ground at the Poison Elemental renowned spawn. First one I was running through to Cavern of the Discarded and saw it on the floor, I recalled to bank to stash it and went back down. As I was running through again, I saw one spawn on the ground and picked that one up too. Thought it was really odd, but I aint complaining either! Went back down again after but didnt see a 3rd spawn...sometimes the RNG smiles in our favour, just sometimes!

Umm, why are they on the ground? I thought they fixed that already? And Cavern of the Discarded are where the rats spawn. The Poison Ele Renowned is from the Tears-something place, a distance away from the Cavern...

So where does this thing drop? From the red rats, or the poison ele?

There is no Poison Ele. Its an Acid Ele and it drops there.

whats the drop rate on the breastplate? ive done it before on my myst mage, its pretty easy. just never got the drop before

also to the guy talking about cavern of the discarded, things players throw on the ground get moved to the rat area. thats why you always see junk there. so my guess is if you saw a breastplate there, it may have spawned on the ground and nobody grabbed it, and it got moved to the rat area.. best i can come up with. if the breastplate did spawn on the ground, where would you find it? would it be where you killed the renown acid ele? or offscreen

After killing several hundred acid elementals I finally gave up and bought my breastplate. Drop rate for me with all renowns is absolutely horrible.

Wow I had insane luck last night. Killed renown pixie, got sword of shattered dreams. Killed renoun acid ele, got breastplate. I ALMOST left the bp on the elemental too because the graphic in the EC makes it look like some useless blood splatter. I had walked away from the corpse but curiousity got me and I came back to see what it was..
