Saturday, June the 2nd, is the official opening of Oasis. At Noon EST will be the first set of brief introductions. Maybe you've heard of it by now. Stratics has threads under the Chesapeake Shard about it. Many people are talking and participating in this pretty unique project. Oasis is a place where all the methods of keeping people around are together in one place. Building a list of returning people so others can find they have returned, providing 'after Haven' mini classes on confusing subjects, upgrading personal equipment, finding a guild, getting escorts for hunting, and so much more. The huge learning curve has been made fast and easy. Getting back up to speed is easy.
Over the years we all happen to notice people wandering around the realm confused and alone, a far cry from their past days. That's very inefficient. With the lack of people crossing the lands due to use of rune stones, and for other reasons, new and returning travelers usually feel the world has moved on without them. The Oasis 'project' is a major effort to overcome this.
If an average of one person returns each DAY to Chesapeake, as my own experience shows, then all we need is to keep them here, and our streets can be busy again. Years of effort to help out taught us what we need to succeed. They return longing for life in the realm again. Ten years later they still return and every one seems to have the same view. 'There is no other place like Britannia. Every other place is hollow somehow.'
You want them to return? Send them to Oasis. Be a town patron and donate some items or supplies you don't really need anymore. Find a little time to meet the new people. Even a totally new traveller has donated the chairs you will be sitting on for the events, and a soul forge, and she is very excited about it. Others have added ideas for the town design like, the Rune Book in the town banner to take you to any other town on the map, and the town has consulates for other towns to meet here for cooperative planning, in a safe and trusted place. The consulates are in fact the second half of the plan. Towns leaders from every town can participate to arrange cooperative defense of cities, or repel invasions, or make treaties.
