Notes Regarding Raiders (edited/updated/expanded/no longer as random)

  • Raiders are red, attackable NPCs that show up periodically in the cities impacted by civil unrest.
  • They appear at irregular intervals; if there's any pattern or obvious determinant I've missed it totally.
  • Their coming is heralded by the town criers and the Sherry the Mouse statues.
  • There are several types of raiders which appear to more or less correspond with various NPC types. For example, some are clearly healers, some are clearly bow-wielding rangers, etc.
  • The fictional implication is that they are visiting from another city. The unrest has, for them, gone beyond protesting and rioting into active aggression.
  • They smack talk to you just as their equivalent NPC does, "bad with weapon," "but a scratch," "thou dost hit only air," etc.
  • One appears to gain city loyalty more-or-less normally from killing raiders.
  • One gains loyalty in the raided city.
  • One does not appear to lose loyalty to anyplace solely or directly from killing the raiders.
  • However, when you go back to helping your main city again you appear to lose loyalty in the city you helped with the raiders all-the-faster. (I.e., from neutral to negative.)
  • The raiders are not repond slayer. (I mention this because they are human so thinking they would be is logical. However, sometimes but not always, the repond slayer has been described as humanoid but not human, and sometimes as all humanoids, including humans.)
  • The raiders are not a difficult fight per se but aren't easy either. (Do not let your attention flag especially when fighting more than one at once.
  • After their health is low they can be bound with the same rope you use to arrest rioters, and brought to the same NPC for arrest.
  • One gains loyalty from arresting raiders.
  • Though NPC dialogue implies you cake them back to their home city, I am unaware of how to do this and I am unaware of anyone finding out where a raider's home city is.
  • The raiders have very respectable Shame/Wong style loot. My best piece is an un-cursed bracelet with SSI, HCI, DI, and some stat bonus.

Re: Random Notes Regarding Raiders

So just to clarify Galen..

You can run around and kill raiders in any city but won't lose loyalty to your home town.

Do you gain loyalty in the town you've traveled to for raiders?

And I'm assuming you still shouldn't feed protesters or put out fires in anything but your home town?

Since raiders don't carry loot though I don't think I'll go looking for them.

Re: Random Notes Regarding Raiders

To all 3 repliers thus far.

I have yet to lose loyalty anyplace from killing raiders. From other posts it seems like you lose a lot faster than you gain when you do something that triggers loss at all.

From those 2 facts together I draw the preliminary conclusion that you do not lose any loyalty from killing raiders.

I have yet to try using a character who has loyalty someplace killing raiders in another city. That'll be next I guess; now that Galen has loyalty someplace, mostly from killing raiders, I'll kill some raiders someplace else and see if I go down.

(I'm betting I won't though. Anyone else try this?)

I have also yet to try capturing any raiders.

Frankly all of my characters are simply way more inclined to kill raiders than capturing raiders, and even capturing the rioters is something of a stretch for them! But alas, they understand that desperate people will flip out riot. But to actually go out of one's way to raid another city puts them in the "kill" column, to my characters.

My guess though? Is that if you take a captured raider back home maybe you gain some loyalty there? Or at least lose any negative loyalty you may have? (The idea being, "thanks for not killing our guy even though he's a scumbag raider and deserved it.")

Re: Random Notes Regarding Raiders

Ok here is what i discovered yesterday:

- My Hometown is Moonglow were i gain loyality
. I started to clean YEW from Raiders after i got the call to defend from the guild

I am still respected in Moonglow but now i am Commended at Yew!
All the other towns still unknown.

So i guess you can kill any raider anywere and will get loyality in that town raided - i will see in other towns if i catch raiders there if the same happens..

BTW: i think the Raiders move TO FAST - why ist that?

Re: Random Notes Regarding Raiders

Yes, it will build loyalty in the different towns. However, EM's are saying you should only defend one town. They have been adamnt about it, I don't know if there is any down side later in the story arc of being loyal to more than one or not, so you may want to think about it before you go about that.

Raiders speed.... well raiders are red.. and speaking from what I see in gen chat all the red raiders hitting champs on Atlantic speed hack, guess these are no different :p lol

Re: Random Notes Regarding Raiders

Please add to list that once you bring them down to 5-10% of health, you can use rope on them and make them prisoners. They turn yellow and can be turned-in just like the grey guys. Once, after I seized a red guy (turning yellow) he still kept casting spells on me, so system is not perfect.
I do not know if you receive more loyalty for the turn-in or for the kill.

*tips hat*

I am hoping the fix for some of this: http://vboards.stratics.com/uhall/260305-buggy-acting-town-raiders-just-heads-up.html

Was taken care of in this: http://vboards.stratics.com/uhall/260493-%5Buo-herald%5D-publish-74-0-2-a.html

Dev's seem to have been on the ball lately. So maybe they have taken care of the issuess. Hopefully a raid or two pops off soon and we can see.

Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday, right down to the same cities.

I didn't want to post about it for fear of it being fixed in today's mini-Publish.

I have a house in New Magincia, which last night was overrun with raiders. I logged and by the time I finished loading I was half dead by an archer that was attacking me from outside my house. So they can shoot through walls and the mages can non-stop cast as they run after you at paragon speed. Boy, this is great for anyone with vendors/bazaar merchants there :(

I have a big problem with this statement. While totally correct it is still misleading...

I was/am Adored in Moonglow.

On Pacific we had Yew and Skara being attacked yesterday by the raiders. I went and killed them til i was Commended in both. Still being Adored in Moonglow i went back to that town to try and gain more loyalty only to find out that i was losing loyalty to the other two towns now.

So while you don't lose killing raiders, if all you did was kill raiders this would be fine but once they are done raiding and you want to gain back in your "home" town you are now known in the other towns and they don't like you doing anything else in other towns.

One of mine? Of someone else's? And how is whatever statement you refer to misleading?

Killing raiders wont kill your loyalty - but any subsequent action for either town will (and we have no idea what happens further down the event line, activity wise).

Bah.

Sorry, what i meant was that while you don't lose loyalty by killing the raiders (like you're saying) once you've become "known" in that town actions in other towns other than killing the raiders lowers the loyalty in the towns that know you now.

Oh ok.

Yes, I surely was making no statement about anything other than killing raiders.

I haven't even tested arresting raiders in your non-primary town and honestly I doubt I will.

Killing them is too much fun.

I haven't even arrested them in my primary town though I suppose I will.

But in my non-primary town? Kill all the way.

Ok so....Sorry if this is what you all were trying to tell me earlier. If so, I understand now.

But I was active in helping Moonglow, didn't lose anything in the other cities for quite awhile.

Then yesterday I killed many raiders in Yew.

Got some Yew loyalty, to my shock.

Still lost nothing in Moonglow.

Then today I was helping in moonglow, no raiders to kill.

But.....Then I abruptly lose in Yew and am down to 'doubted.'

It's almost like when you get loyalty with a city they have this expectation of exclusivity; the expectation that maybe you've switched sides to them.

Then they hate you all the more when it turns out you're still mostly attached to the other city.

Wow.

In terms of national unity that's really bad. In terms of game mechanics it's quite clever! But, wow, RP-wise it's hard to see a happy ending to this; hard to see how the country can bounce back from this and still be a country in any meaningful sense.

I agree. I guess the see-saw type activity of loyalty to different towns is why the EM's are so adamant about folks needing to pick only one town to defend. Then again, they could have other downfalls to not having just one on down the road too. Should be fun to watch it unfold with the group that is working on it imo.

From a RP sense, it kind of makes sense. We are all still under martial law, under that it seems likely each city or region would eventually start raiding the others. Even if it were nothing more than a power struggle from the heads of the cities attempting to set themselves up as the next ruler. Out of the ashes of revolt, mayhem and war, a true leader often emerges and settles things down. *shrugs* Maybe anyway.....

Is there anywhere that we can read all the information about the current political situation in Sosaria?

No.

Unless your local EMs have written it into their own fiction (events), all you have to go on so far are the stories posted to the Herald. While these stories FAR surpass the drek thrown at us the last few years, they haven't gotten passed the incredibly vague hint stage yet.

Though, as usual, GL has been seeing hints of whats going on since last summer. :p

Nah, the rp standpoint I was mentioning was strictly hypothetical on my part. Just building on the point Galen was making was all. I have no clue what the plot holds. As far as the martial law bit.....

Almost a year ago Queen Dawn was killed which did leave the land under martial law. Lady Danica {main em char} has made mention of that on more than a few occasions. Most notably here: http://vboards.stratics.com/atlantic-em-forum/257151-professor-yusef-matter-your-quest.html I was just taking a page from there and speculating and trying to come up with a possible happy ending from an RP sense was all.

Only link I found in a quick search on Queen Dawn's Death http://vboards.stratics.com/uo-chesapeake/235408-[news]queen-dawn-murdered.html

kinda confused here. Is this an EM event? or part of what's going on EM driven?
Are raiders on all shards, and are they event or EM?
My Sherry mouse, on LS, only speaks of Cove (where a visiting confederate juka is), and riots in Britannia, nada about raiders. How often do raiders show up?

Pub 74 notes:

Live Arc Started

You will be noticing we have added town loyalty, please pick the town you are the fondest of, you can only have loyalty to one town. Starting this month and continuing thru September the UO Team and the EM Team have worked together to create something we are very excited about. So keep your ears and eyes open for the next phase in this adventure as we prepare in the coming months for our 15th Anniversary!

The raiders {which are supposed to be on all shards} are part of the live arc event that will run from now until Sept range. The EM's have been very active in this one, especially with plot and fiction from what Mesanna has said. So far on Atlantic the Sherry statues and town criers have only been incorrect one time on raided towns that I have witnessed, and that one occasion was fixed within forty five minutes. I can not say definately who controls the raiders nor why or when they spawn. I can say it does appear to be a totally random deal.

I also ran to Cove on Atl and could not find a confederate Juka anywhere tho. Either I overlooked him, or we haven't gotten that far, or maybe it could be left from an old LS event *shrug*

This is a metafiction event (something that spans all the shards - i.e. their shared history) that, according to Mythic, was concieved of by the EMs. So, in essence, it is a massive EM event that lasts till September.

From the Pub 74 notes:
Starting this month and continuing thru September the UO Team and the EM Team have worked together to create something we are very excited about. So keep your ears and eyes open for the next phase in this adventure as we prepare in the coming months for our 15th Anniversary!
The loyalty part that we have now is hard coded, so the protesters/rioters/raiders spawn via the server. Though I'm wagering that EMs could probably increase the spawn for their events if need be.

While the big events tied to this will be pretty much the same across all the shards, the details will most likely be slightly different.

why are they not difficult per se? is there something else making them difficult?
wondered that too (and Thanks Kylie), someone mentioned archers shooting thru walls (first seen this w/ ophids in Papua), non-stop spell casting, and paragon+ speed. anytime they resort to applying impossible game mechanics to mobs only, i call fowl. Hopefully they made them immune to special moves like disarm as well. i may be sitting this one out

If your attention flags when fighting one of them, they might kill you.

If your attention flags when fighting two of them, the odds are strongly against you.

If your attention flags while fighting three of them, you will die.

But if you're paying attention and are quick? The odds favor you.

This is what I mean by "not hard per se."
