Hi everyone and happy new year !

I just found out about final fantasy online and decided to give it a try, i want to ask some question about server, like which one has the more population or the one where i can easily find some group to play with.

And i would like to know if there will be a new expansion for this game coming up soon? i've searched on their website but couldn't find any information.

Could you guys give me some pointers for the beginning of the game? like where i should go or what i should do. I've looked over some forum and website but either the information was dated from 3 years or more or the information i had was different from source to source. So i decided to come here and ask the player of this game to tell me this :D

Heya, and welcome to FFXI Stratics :)

Servers.. Busy isn't always best. But if you still want the busiest, that is apparently Odin, because they are consistently offering free emigration from Odin. It may actually do you well when you're starting out, but as you get bigger and want to camp monsters and do endgame stuff, you'll find that busy is actually bad.

Expansions.. A year ago October, we got Wings of the Goddess. They are still expanding on this, adding features and missions. There's been some talk about some mini-expansions, but I don't know how far down the road they are. Also we receive an update almost monthly, and there's usually something new to do in those.

Any info dated three years ago would still be good for someone just starting out. My advice (take it for what it's worth): Solo to at least 10, preferably 15, then seek out parties. When joining a nation, I would pick anything but Windurst to start. As a baby, you will have enough difficulty getting to Valkurm Dunes from San d'Oria and Bastok, let alone the long long LONG trek it is from Windurst to the Dunes. You can always change nations later if Windurst is what you really want. Don't throw anything away at first. Some things that you get from the mobs you kill will be worth money to someone else, some can be easily crafted to save space, and some are for quests. Look up stuff on the net if you can't decide what to do with it.

thank you very much for your answer Trish :D

I'm checking the class and the race atm on final fantasy online wiki while waiting for the patches to finish download !

I might check out Odin like you said and if they get free transfer it might be good for leveling then when i'm high enough i'll switch or if you tell me a good server where most of the population of this forum is and would like to talk with me that would be nice :D I have no friend that is playing the game with me so :D

I would like to ask another question, is this game playable with a dial-up connection (56k) ? I have high speed to my dad's place but my mom's can't have it :S

Well, the free emigration from Odin isn't always around. I'm not even sure if it's still active, but I know it was a few weeks ago. I've been playing about a year 1/2 and I've seen it twice. So I reckon if you're patient, you'll see it again, lol.

These forums are rather quiet. But I know we have representatives from Asura, Titan, Midgardsormr (hope I spelled that one right lol), Pandemonium and Caitsith.

As for 56k.. Yeah I've heard of some who have done it. I don't know how effectively, but apparently it can be done. You may have to resort to what I do when I visit my family: Just garden and craft and no partying. lol

ahh alright then i'll check the server name and population and check this out :)

for the 56k thing, i know it depends on the game because, for example, i can hardly party in everquest 2 because of my connection but in Warhammer online i can party and do battleground with like 20-25 ppl without lagging.... :D

From what i have been able to check out for races, i think i'll do either a hume, a mithra or a taru

And don't forget Littlefoot's First Steps, a new player guide written very recently by our own staff member banhammer.

I've been trying to update our site to links to the upcoming expansions (mini-expansions) for a while, I just haven't had access to modify the main page. :(

I had played for 4 years. I don't play any more but in general you will like to have a good connection. If you can't party without lag in Everquest II then you will fall into trouble with FFXI.

My main advice would be in still continuing to play is to pick a support job. People who have good connections won't be sympathetic towards you if you play a healer or tank and miss a critical heal on the tank or miss provoking say a heraldic imp off of the healer.

Best of luck to you in your journeys. Oh, my advice would be as well to check FFXIAH and look at all the applicable server economies. Best of luck in all of your endeavours.
